Government Technology’s passion is helping spread best practices and spurring innovation in the public sector. The Wisconsin Digital Government Summit is designed to do just that. The summit has an advisory board that gathers public- and private-sector leaders to create an agenda designed to make that passion relevant and actionable to the state and local government organizations attending the summit. Participants tell us they use the inspirational keynotes, leadership discussions, networking breaks, and the timely topics discussed in the numerous breakout sessions to help advance the goals of their organizations.
This Year’s Topics Include:
"This will be my fourth address to the Digital Government Summit. The first was after a few weeks on the job and the last was a report out on the progress of our plans. This year we continue to move the needle by being effective, efficient and accountable to the citizens of the State of Wisconsin through our product and service offerings. While we continue to advocate for enterprise strategies, we must also be more innovative, agile and nimble. Enterprise strategies offer the consistency of best practices across our IT organizations to achieve economies of scale while also listening and soliciting great ideas from every corner of the state and local government. Our citizens and market trends will keep us challenged with many opportunities to be better. I am confident we have a phenomenal staff throughout government that will encourage dialogue between policy makers, business people and IT professionals, including building collaborative relationships and then letting our talent flourish to make Wisconsin a premier state."

Concurrent SessionsCyber Security –Social Engineering and HacktivismHall of Ideas, Salon ECyber security is the new front line of financial crime and social upheaval. It is the new Wild West, with hackers divided among the "white hats" and "black hats." Stage coach and bank robberies of old have been replaced by heists of personally identifiable information from major retailers, insurers and governments. Political protests are increasingly taking the form of denial-of-service attacks by so-called “hacktivists” to disrupt the normal order of things. Such things can and do happen anywhere, and everyone has a role in preventing, preparing for, and responding to cyber threats. This session unpacks key lessons and learnings from real-life cases. It’s estimated that the world’s information doubles every 18 months, and this is certainly true in the public sector. The subject matter is dense and difficult to explain. It is even harder to do. And it has been long relegated to the category of ‘problem’ rather than seen as the source of potential solutions for the vexing issues of governing. Come hear how the State of Wisconsin is exploring the possibilities of digitizing documents, and the impact on workflow and how it relates to LEAN initiatives, performance metrics and potential cost savings for the State.
