Government Technology’s passion is helping spread best practices and spurring innovation in the public sector. The Ohio Digital Government Summit is designed to do just that. The summit has an advisory board that gathers public- and private-sector leaders to create an agenda designed to make that passion relevant and actionable to the state and local government organizations attending the summit. Participants tell us they use the inspirational keynotes, leadership discussions, networking breaks, and the timely topics discussed in the numerous breakout sessions to help advance the goals of their organizations.
This Year’s Topics:
“Regarding Ohio’s IT Optimization efforts, we planned the work together and we are working the plan together… and together, the plan is working. We are making a difference and we have seen significant progress with these efforts. We are truly transforming how we do business within the State. Our focus is now shifting toward enterprise shared solutions and online government services. We have gotten to this point working from an enterprise perspective and I look forward to addressing the next series of challenges together. Come to the 15th Annual Ohio Digital Government Summit and share your ideas, solutions and lessons learned and become part of the solution. I look forward to seeing you all there!"

Opening Keynote – Find Your VoiceTerrace Ballroom 4Jim Meskimen, Master Impressionist and Communication Coach Today’s culture emphasizes the value of teamwork and collaboration, sometimes at the expense of the individual. This is particularly true in the IT arena where you can sometimes find yourself stereotyped, or even worse, not taken seriously by potential stakeholders. What good are insights and solutions if your words get lost in the crowd? You need to make sure that you’re heard! Jim Meskimen has spent the past 30 years studying the most famous, creative and interesting people in modern times. In this fascinating and hilarious session, Jim discusses – and illustrates – the traits and methods used by some of the best and most charismatic communicators in the world. Don’t settle for being “one of the crowd”. YOU have a unique identity. YOU have a voice! |

Concurrent SessionsCloud-based ProvisioningMeeting Room E170Back in the early days, the Cloud was merely a way to share information. Today, almost anything can be delivered via the Cloud “as a service”: software, mobile apps, infrastructure, storage, platforms, data, you name it. The possibilities and configurations are endless, and they introduce a variety of challenges including security, access management, BYOD and many more. This session explores the nature of “cloud enablement” and what it means to government organizations. Dr. Peter Williams, Chief Technology Officer and Distinguished Engineer, Big Green Innovations, IBM Matthew Popovich, Ohio Private Cloud Service Owner, Enterprise Service Team, Office of Information Technology, Department of Administrative Services, State of Ohio View Popovich Presentation Here William Sanders, Director, Government Cloud, Public Sector/Strategic Programs, Oracle View Sanders Presentation Here Mobile Apps the Smart WayMeeting Room E171Smartphones are increasingly replacing computers, televisions, landlines, game consoles, GPS devices, and live personal interaction. Smartphone addiction has even been labelled an official syndrome: “nomophobia”. Needless to say, this puts pressure on government agencies to innovate by accurately – and proactively – envisioning the evolving needs and demands of citizens and employees. This session takes a look at practical ways to go about it. Dr. Siddhartha Chatterjee, Chief Technology Officer, Persistent Systems Brian Kelley, Chief Information Officer, Information Technology Services, Portage County Future of NetworksMeeting Room E172Odds are that you’re currently wrestling with the inability of your existing IT infrastructure to keep up with the escalating demands of big data, mobility, cloud, transparency, security, “as a service”, et al. The status quo is probably not sustainable for much longer. So where do you go from here and how fast should you try to get there? This session discusses modern infrastructure trends, including the Ohio One Network, and how to realistically evaluate needs and objectives. Ed Koehler, Director and Distinguished Engineer, Worldwide Networking, Avaya View Koehler Presentation Here Henry Smith, Unified Network Services Manager, Department of Administrative Services, State of Ohio View Smith Presentation Here Denis Walsh, Chief Relationship Officer, OARnet View Walsh Presentation Here Privacy vs. Security: Do We Have to Choose?Meeting Room E160It’s been said that the debate between privacy and security is over, and privacy lost. Fortunately for us, that’s not quite true. But there are pressures pushing us in that direction, including: transparency, open data, national security, public safety, social media and consumer information. An astounding amount of our personal information is in the hands of third parties, including government agencies. This session ponders one of the hottest issues of our times and what it means for the public sector. General Session – Breach! When Bad Things Happen to Good People (and Their Organizations)Terrace Ballroom 4Cyber security is the new front line of financial crime and social upheaval. It is the new Wild West, with hackers divided among the "white hats" and "black hats." Stage coach and bank robberies of old have been replaced by heists of personally identifiable information from major retailers, insurers and governments. Political protests are increasingly taking the form of denial-of-service attacks by so-called “hactivists” to disrupt the normal order of things. Such things can and do happen anywhere, and everybody has a role in preventing, preparing for, and responding to cyber threats. This interactive session unpacks key lessons and learnings from real-life cases with the help of a panel of security experts. Moderator: Jack Mortimer, Government Technology magazine DuWayne E. Aikins, Senior Strategist, Cyber Security, AT&T David Brown, Chief Information Security Officer, Office of Information Security and Privacy, Department of Administrative Services, State of Ohio Robert Myles, National Public Safety Practice Manager, U.S. Programs and Alliances, Symantec |

Fast Track SessionsTerrace Ballroom 4Game of DronesOnce you leave your house you’re in the public domain and there are electronic eyes everywhere. Whether that’s good or bad depends on one’s point of view. This session takes a look at some of the nifty (and perhaps unsettling) technologies out there, including drones, body cams, video surveillance, and their impact on government and society as a whole. Stu Davis, Chief Information Officer, State of Ohio Ryan Smith, Director of Unmanned Aerial Systems, Department of Transportation, State of Ohio Internet of ThingsIn an increasingly connected society, smart devices, gadgets and sensors are ubiquitous and inescapable. The implications are both exciting and staggering. This session explores some of the technologies that are sweeping across society and the opportunities and challenges they bring to our communities. Ray Bonini, Manager, Solutions Architect, Verizon Wireless Intelligent Community of the Year for 2015: Columbus!Columbus is an extraordinary city. Each year the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF), a New York-based think tank, evaluates communities around the world to select the most intelligent. After three years as a finalist (and the only U.S. city), Columbus was named the global winner for 2015. ICF calls Columbus “a revolutionary community in the truest sense”. In this session we will get the inside scoop about what makes Columbus such a success story.
