Lunch Keynote – Change Yourself, Change Others – Mastering Your Own Behaviors So You Can Inspire Others to Shift Theirs

Elizabeth Frisch, Best-Selling Author & Founder of The Thrival Company

It’s so easy to find fault and criticize others for their inability to change. We often get frustrated by our lack of control when working in a bureaucracy or government setting. We feel powerless to get others (and the system) to change. Yet, the key to mastering working with others in this challenging environment to shift their behaviors is to master shifting your own. This fun, engaging keynote provides 8 critical practices to shifting yourself so you can powerfully shift others.

Speaker Bio: Elizabeth Frisch, Founder and CXO of The Thrival Company is the best-selling author of Mission to Million$ - Taking Big Ideas and Making Them Reality. Known for taking complex organizational issues and creating easy to implement frameworks, she has worked with over 50 different industries, all levels of local, state, and federal governments as well as NGOs/NPOs. She is nationally recognized for developing a unique and trademarked approach to performance and behavior-based auditing and has trained thousands of people globally in the areas of mobility management, business performance, auditing, and compliance. Having worked in state government herself, as well as provided consulting support to dozens of government agencies and cities, Ms. Frisch brings a deep understanding of the inner workings of public agencies and the cultures surrounding them. Ms. Frisch has over 25 years of experience leading business performance, management, engineering, organizational development and auditing programs. She is also co-campaign leader and facilitator of the Central Texas 20/20 Mobility Campaign (funded by the City of Austin and Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority) working with dozens of organizations across Central Texas to build effective mobility strategies into their organizations including TxDOT, AISD, ACC, Freescale, Bazaarvoice, NetSpend, AMD, Seton Health Systems, Parkway Properties, and many others. She is a trained facilitator and has facilitated hundreds of retreats, events, training courses and workshops and is a keynote speaker on the topics of leadership, teams, auditing, and business performance. From the plant floor to the top floor, Elizabeth is just as comfortable in a hard hat and boots as working with boards and C-level management. In 2014, she was a Top 3 Finalist for the Austin Chamber of Commerce Small Business Leader of the Year out of hundreds of nominations for this award.

General Session – Security is Everybody's Business!

Chris Blessington, Senior Director of Marketing, ExtraHop Networks
Andrew Dolan, Member Services Manager, Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center
Deborah Snyder, Deputy Chief Information Security Officer, Information Technology Services, New York State

Cyber security is the new front line of financial crime and social upheaval. It is the new Wild West, with hackers divided among the "white hats" and "black hats." Stage coach and bank robberies of old have been replaced by heists of personally identifiable information from major retailers, insurers and governments. Political protests are increasingly taking the form of denial-of-service attacks by so-called “hactivists” to disrupt the normal order of things. Such things can and do happen anywhere, and everybody has a role in preventing, preparing for, and responding to cyber threats. This interactive session unpacks key lessons and learnings from real-life cases with the help of a panel of local experts and engaged audience members.

Tim first joined IBM in 1995 as an industry solutions consultant. He came to the company after graduating from Harvard University, where he studied international relations and became obsessed with deterrence theory and nuclear war-gaming. He has spent 16 years at IBM, though not contiguously—he left briefly in 1999 to try his hand at a startup, catching the dotcom implosion at just the right time before rejoining the mother ship three years later. Tim now serves as IBM’s Worldwide Public Sector Leader for the IBM Analytics Industry Team—a role in which he leads industry consultants and enterprise architects in helping government agencies and healthcare firms to leverage Big Data and analytics techniques and transform business models. While fluent in all segments of government, his particular passion lies in helping intelligence, law enforcement, defense and homeland security agencies harness information as a strategic asset for protecting the society they serve. Throughout his career at IBM, Tim has led a range of strategy and marketing, solution sales and solution management teams across services, S&D and SWG. Tim is recognized as one of IBM's Government leaders worldwide, and is frequently found representing IBM at industry events as a presenter or panel representative. Tim lives in Connecticut with his wife Angela, three children, and their Labrador retriever. For rest and relaxation, he serves as a nationally certified fire rescue instructor, and recently retired from 15 years on the thin red line as a firefighter in Simsbury, where he achieved a terminal rank of captain. He is also an avid mountain biker and fly fisherman. Recently, Tim participated in a live tabletop exercise along with senior leaders from the U.S. Directorate of National Intelligence, Centers for Disease Control and Federal Emergency Management Agency, in which the panel simulated incident management and government emergency response to a hypothetical outbreak of hemorrhagic fever after a professional basketball game in a major U.S. city. "This was one of the few times where my professional life at IBM intersected with my hobby as a fire rescue instructor and fire officer," Tim says. "It was an incredible experience to have earned a seat at the tabletop exercise with such experienced government leaders."

NYS Data Center Virtual Tour

Anteroom (Lobby Level)

New York State houses its new, state-of-the-art data center at SUNY Polytechnic Institute’s College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE) in Albany, as part of a unique public-private sector partnership between the New York State Office of Information Technology Services (ITS) and CNSE. Through this collaboration, the state has been able to consolidate myriad, outdated data centers that were disparately located, resulting in more efficient, reliable and secure government IT operations and services. The data center also serves as a hub for innovative research, job creation, and a resource to train the state’s next generation IT workforce. Working jointly with CNSE and its corporate partners, ITS has access to investigate, research, test, and sample new technologies before they reach the market. This session will provide a virtual tour of the new data center, highlighting how it is transforming government IT and how entities can take advantage of its cutting edge resources.
