Opening Keynote - Find Your Voice

Jim Meskimen, Master Impressionist and Communication Coach

Today’s culture emphasizes the value of teamwork and collaboration, sometimes at the expense of the individual. This is particularly true in the IT arena where you can sometimes find yourself stereotyped, or even worse, not taken seriously by potential stakeholders. What good are insights and solutions if your words get lost in the crowd? You need to make sure that you’re heard! Jim Meskimen has spent the past 30 years studying the most famous, creative and interesting people in modern times. In this fascinating and hilarious session, Jim discusses – and illustrates – the traits and methods used by some of the best and most charismatic communicators in the world. Don’t settle for being “one of the crowd”. YOU have a unique identity. YOU have a voice!

Speaker Bio: A professional actor for over thirty years, Jim Ross Meskimen appeared in the films Apollo 13, The Grinch, Frost/Nixon, The Punisher, There Will Be Blood, and many others. Some of Meskimen’s TV credits include recurring roles on Parks & Recreation, Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Friends, Whose Line is it, Anyway?, Lie to Me and Rules of Engagement. In 2011, the Australian Today Show dubbed Meskimen, “The World’s Greatest Impressionist.” His viral Shakespeare in Celebrity Voices has over a million views and subsequent viral videos have cemented him as a major YouTube talent. He can be seen currently in Impress Me, an original half-hour comedy that originated as a successful web series. Meskimen lives in Los Angeles with his actress wife, Tamara. Their daughter Taylor is also a performer. His mother is beloved actress Marion Ross, who played Mrs. C in the long-running ABC comedy Happy Days.

General Session – Breach! When Bad Things Happen to Good People (and Their Organizations)

Cyber security is the new front line of financial crime and social upheaval. It is the new Wild West, with hackers divided among the "white hats" and "black hats." Stage coach and bank robberies of old have been replaced by heists of personally identifiable information from major retailers, insurers and governments. Political protests are increasingly taking the form of denial-of-service attacks by so-called “hactivists” to disrupt the normal order of things. Such things can and do happen anywhere, and everybody has a role in preventing, preparing for, and responding to cyber threats. This interactive session unpacks key lessons and learnings from real-life cases with the help of a panel of local experts and engaged audience members.

A Holistic Security View

Capital Room

With dozens of companies advocating multiple products with differing approaches, how do we define a practical, actionable security roadmap to best secure our environments? How can we identify when and where we need to add additional layers of security? How can we determine what new tools best integrate with our existing infrastructure? Taking a holistic view of the assets we need to protect, the changing threat landscape, the technologies already in place and new technologies available to us can offer a method to answer these questions.

Joseph Stetler, Senior Systems Programmer, Information Technology, Clark County

Foundational Identity Management

Paramount Room

Every IT organization needs a solid foundation, and it starts with identity management. This session discusses how to properly plan your Identity Management strategy, identify your requirements, and effectively implement tools and controls that really work. Learn about best practices and how to focus on doing the simple and most appropriate things first using the tools that you have to fill gaps and ensure you are positioning your current infrastructure for success.

Nick Scheib, Systems Engineering and Administration Manager, University of Nevada, Las Vegas

Lori Temple, Vice Provost, Information Technology, University of Nevada, Las Vegas

Rapid Application Development and Modernization

Rapid development is agile, highly iterative and flexible. This session looks at current thinking about how, when and why this approach can be the most effective and practical way to go.
