Concurrent SessionsThe Future of CybersecurityChurchill BallroomIt’s an old adage that the cyber landscape is constantly shifting. But some things remain unchanged. Attacks are still efforts to rob, disrupt or avenge. Motives are still economic, political or cultural. The overall battlefield remains much the same but the weapons and tactics continue to evolve – often dramatically. This session looks at emerging trends, security analytics, developments and strategies on the cyber front and how to get ready for the clashes ahead. Sean Flynn, Senior Enterprise Security Architect, Akamai Technologies Shawn Kingsberry, Director, Digital Government, Global Public Sector, Unisys @skingsbe Analytics – Turning Data into KnowledgeWindsor IV & VSociety’s appetite for data is downright insatiable. It’s estimated that the world’s information doubles every 18 months, and this is certainly true in the public sector. Government agencies have no shortage of data from which to extract actionable insights. This session looks at how to capitalize on existing data by making reliable projections that drive smarter decisions. Errol Sayre, Associate Director of Application Development and Integration, The University of Mississippi (@ErrolSayre) Margaret Walden, Associate Director for Institutional Research, Institutional Research, Effectiveness & Planning, The University of Mississippi Human-Centered Design ThinkingWinston BallroomIn the past, design has most often occurred fairly far downstream in the development process and has focused on making products aesthetically attractive. Now supporting users by uncovering latent needs, behaviors, and desires are considered important design factors. This session, which is suited to both developers and business team members, will cover how the partnership of technology and business and always keeping the end user in in mind can lead to innovative solutions Robbie Seitz, Webmaster, Information Technology, The University of Mississippi Workflow Optimization and AutomationSurrey BallroomRepetitive tasks – when performed by humans – are prone to error and inefficiency. Automation comes to the rescue by reducing mistakes, lessening the need for supervision, increasing efficiency and improving communication. This session takes a look at tools, technologies and strategies that are leading the way to greater productivity and digital transformation. Featured Speaker – Exponential Government: The Future of Public ServiceWindsor BallroomPaul Taylor, Chief Content Officer for Governing, Government Technology, Public CIO, and the Center for Digital Government (@pwtaylor) ex·po·nen·tial (adjective): becoming more and more rapid. The world we knew is changing at exponential speed. The iPhone has eclipsed the Blackberry, mobile devices are displacing PCs, the cloud is radically challenging long-held assumptions about data centers, and the Internet of Things is redefining connectivity. What we regard as state of the art today will look quaint tomorrow as exponential technologies unlock individual, organizational, and societal potential. Along the way, people get scared, old organizational models crumble, and legacy cost structures stop penciling out. Understanding these shifts and how they differ from previous shifts is imperative. This session provides a tour of the meta-trends that are reshaping our communities – demographics, economics, methods of work, customer expectations and the relevance of governmental institutions — all annotated with real world examples. By the end, you’ll have a clearer picture of what Exponential Government will look like, how it will act, and why your actions today can lead you to a preferred exponential future and a more perfect union. |

Concurrent SessionsEmbracing Mobile for a Better Public SectorChurchill BallroomMobility utilization is perpetually woven into our daily life. Integrating that use into government service is now an expectation of citizens and government employees alike. Where do organizations start in order to tackle the process, security and technical challenges that will need to be addressed when developing or implementing a mobile device management strategy? This session will cover: · Examples of work being done to enable mobile working in rural areas · Departments which are enabling staff to connect to the network securely and communicate through multiple avenues remotely to increasing flexible working · How creating more agile working solutions can reduce operational costs Drew Levanway, Director of Portal Operations and Business Development, Mississippi Interactive, LLC Craig Sparks, Vice President, Technology Planning & Strategy, C Spire Bart Uharriet, Director of Information Management, Mississippi State Hospital, Department of Mental Health, State of Mississippi Privacy vs. Security: Do We Have to Choose?Windsor IV & VIt’s been said that the debate between privacy and security is over, and privacy lost. But there are pressures pushing us in that direction, including: transparency, open data, national security, public safety, social media and consumer information. An astounding amount of our personal information is in the hands of third parties, including government agencies. This session ponders one of the hottest issues of our times and what it means for the public sector. DuWayne Aikins Sr., Senior Cybersecurity Strategist, AT&T Metrics That Matter: Measuring the Impact of Collaboration and TechnologyWinston BallroomThere's little doubt that government's already substantial investment in information technology is going to continue to grow as public agencies look for ways to streamline processes, engage with citizens and achieve social results. Technologists are going to be required to show not only that IT funds are being expended effectively but also that these resources are driving outcomes. This session will cover how to engage stakeholders in creating logic models, work creatively toward outcomes that matter, and how to share data on IT performance. Fast Track SessionsWindsor BallroomGame of DronesOnce you leave your house or even connect to the Internet you’re in the public domain and there are digital eyes everywhere. Whether that’s good or bad depends on your point of view. But drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) bring a whole new element to the equation. This session discusses the issues, challenges and opportunities raised by these projects in what is sure to be a game-changing technology in government. Robert J. Moorhead II, Director, Geosystems Research and North Gulf Institutes, Mississippi State University The Benefits of 3-D GISThree-dimensional mapping technology is helping improve data accuracy and citizen services. When combined with GIS data, 3-D maps give government an entirely virtual representation of infrastructure that can be manipulated. In the State of Mississippi, the Department of Transportation utilizes GIS technology in various ways including analysis and reporting of information about bridges, highways and other transportation assets. GIS offers the ability to create detailed searches about an area as it relates to a particular location along the road producing both map and tabular results. MDOT also utilizes the GIS for analysis of project locations as it relates to environmental and socioeconomic concerns. This session will discuss that and other practical applications of GIS in government. Ben Cohen, Chief Information Officer, Department of Transportation, State of Mississippi Michael Cresap, Transportation Information Director, Department of Transportation, State of Mississippi Technology Tools for Economic DevelopmentWe often hear how the investment of tech companies in a state can improve the economy but a state’s investment in serving business through technology can have the same affect. The team that created Y’all Business, a website created by the Secretary of State, will share how technology is being used as ‘the first step toward successful business in Mississippi’.
