Government Technology’s passion is helping spread best practices and spurring innovation in the public sector. The Kentucky Digital Government Summit is designed to do just that. The summit has an advisory board that gathers public sector and private sector leaders to create an agenda designed to make that passion relevant and actionable to the state and local government organizations attending the summit. Participants tell us they use the inspirational keynotes, leadership discussions, networking breaks, and timely topics discussed in the numerous breakout sessions to help advance the goals of their organizations and their own career paths.

Opening Keynote – Leading on the EdgeAssembly BallroomManley Feinberg, World-class Climber, Adventurer and IT Leader (@manleyf) IT officials often struggle to deliver more value under tightening constraints and rising expectations. Throw in the complications of regulations, a changing workforce, constantly evolving technology, plus the chaos of day-to-day life, and you are facing some serious challenges. It can feel like you’re walking too close to the edge, and the old adage “Don’t look down!” applies just as much to a tough deadline as climbing the sheer face of El Capitan. Manley Feinberg has tackled and conquered impossible environments – from breakneck corporate expansion to nature’s most hostile terrains. In this unforgettable keynote, Manley reveals his 7 Vertical Lessons that will enable you to lead, contribute and inspire in ways that will take you – and your teams – to bold new heights. |

Will Holmes, Branch Manager for GIS, Transportation Cabinet, Commonwealth of Kentucky Ed Merkler, Software Sales, IBM Future of the DesktopSeminar RoomIs the desktop dead? Not by any means. So it’s no surprise that workers are increasingly demanding more freedom and flexibility. Managers can’t buck the trend for long if they want to attract and retain skilled employees. This session takes a look at new technologies and approaches that are transforming the traditional desktop paradigm. General Session – Energy, Technology and the FutureAssembly BallroomRoger Duncan, Research Fellow, Energy Institute, University of Texas (@ToSaveEnergy) Technology and energy are inextricable. They evolve – or fail to evolve – mutually, and their combined impact on society is incalculable. Today we are headed for an entirely new form of “Industrial Revolution”. Technology megatrends such as nanotechnology, robotics, embedded intelligence, smart buildings and the “Internet of Everything” will dramatically alter the social landscape, as will extraordinary advances in energy production and storage. Some of it may be more hype than reality at this point, but there are some serious game-changers already in play and many more to come! In this session, nationally known energy expert Roger Duncan explores the road ahead and discusses government’s complex balancing act in keeping our nation safe, secure and prosperous. |

Concurrent SessionsEmerging Trends and TechnologiesCaucus RoomIn the quest for increased efficiencies and cost savings, technology continues to blaze new trails. What is the next big thing? What new technologies have the most potential to impact government operations and services? Can existing technologies be transformed? This session will provide a glimpse into the future and some of the technologies that might lead the way. Julie Johnson, Solutions Engineer, Customer Experience Management, Avaya Tim Lonsway, Public Sector Business Director, CBTS No Phishing AllowedKentucky RoomOne question about security is very easy to answer: "Are we 100% digitally secure?" The answer is always "no", of course. There are no absolutes, and that's particularly true for security. But there are ways to tilt the odds in your favor. The easiest (and cheapest) way is to simply quit doing the things you shouldn’t be doing. This fun and informative session provides some valuable tips and insights. David Couch, Chief Information Officer, Department of Education, Commonwealth of Kentucky Bob Hackworth, K-12 Chief Data Security Officer, Department of Education, Commonwealth of Kentucky Marty Park, K-12 Chief Digital Officer, Department of Education, Commonwealth of Kentucky (@martypark) Making Data MeaningfulSeminar RoomGovernment by nature is in the data collection business, and there is no shortage of information from which to extract actionable insights. The challenge for agencies is to reinvent how they tabulate, interpret and present vast amounts (and varieties) of information. This session looks at creative ways to add value and make your data connect with colleagues, users and constituents. Concurrent SessionsNext Generation Workforce – How to Recruit, Retain and SurviveCaucus RoomThe average Baby Boomer is now 60 while the average Millennial is around 25. This has enormous implications in the public sector workplace, not the least of which is an incalculable loss of institutional knowledge. But it goes beyond a brain drain; it also encompasses an influx of entirely different attitudes, expectations and knowledge. This session discusses what’s at stake and how to best prepare for the challenges ahead. Al Early, Vice President, IT Solutions and Sales, CBTS Sherelle Roberts, Public Information Officer, Department of Public Safety, Commonwealth of Kentucky (@sherellerpierre) Rene’ True, Executive Director, ConnectKentucky What Does the Cloud Really Entail Today?Kentucky RoomBack in the early days, the Cloud was merely a way to share information. Today, almost anything can be delivered via the Cloud “as a service”: software, infrastructure, storage, platforms, data, you name it. The possibilities and configurations are endless. This session explores the nature of consumption-based computing today and its impact on government organizations. Jared Allen, Chief Technology Officer, GWAVA Wes Kennedy, Systems Engineer, SLED North Central, Nutanix Evolution of Drones, Video and WearablesSeminar RoomOnce you leave your house you’re in the public domain and there are electronic eyes everywhere. Whether that’s good or bad depends on your point of view. This session takes a look at some of the nifty (and perhaps unsettling) technologies out there, including drones, body cams, video surveillance, wearables and their impact on government and society.
