Government Technology’s passion is helping spread best practices and spurring innovation in the public sector. The Indiana Digital Government Summit is designed to do just that. The summit has an advisory board that gathers public- and private-sector leaders to create an agenda designed to make that passion relevant and actionable to the state and local government organizations attending the summit. Participants tell us they use the inspirational keynotes, leadership discussions, networking breaks, and the timely topics discussed in the numerous breakout sessions to help advance the goals of their organizations.
This Year’s Topics Include:
“The Indiana Digital Government Summit is a great opportunity for the public sector to come together to share ideas. I would encourage your support and attendance of this Summit and look forward to seeing you there.”
- Paul Baltzell, Chief Information Officer, State of Indiana

Opening Keynote – Find Your VoiceClark/DawsonJim Meskimen, Master Impressionist and Communication Coach Today’s culture emphasizes the value of teamwork and collaboration, sometimes at the expense of the individual. This is particularly true in the IT arena where you can sometimes find yourself stereotyped, or even worse, not taken seriously by potential stakeholders. What good are insights and solutions if your words get lost in the crowd? You need to make sure that you’re heard! Jim Meskimen has spent the past 25 years studying the most famous, creative and interesting people in modern times. In this fascinating and amusing session, Jim discusses – and illustrates – the traits and methods used by some of the best and most charismatic communicators in the world. Don’t settle for being “one of the crowd”. YOU have a unique identity. YOU have a voice! |

Lunch Keynote – Cybersecurity – Indiana’s New DefenseClark/DawsonCyber-defense is a top priority for Indiana Governor Mike Pence. By their very nature, security threats are constantly shifting and changing shape and Cyber-attacks have become more organized, advanced, persistent and adaptive. It is imperative for government organizations to be prepared to meet these dire challenges and still meet current user’s demands and compliance requirements. This session will explore the tactics attackers use at the front lines of cyber warfare and inform you on the partnership the State of Indiana is building with Purdue University to leverage private sector expertise and students to defend state networks from next-generation cyberattacks. The new security center, called the Indiana Information Sharing & Analysis Center, or IN-ISAC for short, which had its Grand Opening on October 9, will assist the state in monitoring and defending their systems and networks. Concurrent SessionsThe Evolution of Civic EngagementMillerOpen government and transparency are often unattainable without an aggressive open data strategy. Data empowers citizens – but only if it’s valuable information and only if it’s in a form that’s easy to understand and use. Otherwise, all the hard work just goes to waste. This session looks at how to effectively use open data to streamline, improve upon, and amplify citizen relationships. Moderator: Graig Lubsen, Communications and Marketing Director, Office of Technology, State of Indiana Jeremy Chenevert, Director, Information Services, Department of Environmental Management, State of Indiana Andrew Hoff, Director of Operations, Indiana Interactive Matthew Kirby, Organizer, Open Indy Brigade Maps for the MassesHartThe Indiana GIS community is data rich. Not only can we find over 240 geodata layers about our state on the IndianaMap (www.indianamap.org) but Indiana is one of very few states that have complete and current orthophotography and LiDAR datasets. But what does that mean if you’re not a GIS Geek? This session will showcase, in layman’s terms, some of the amazing uses of maps and simple user-facing tools currently available all sectors of government. Moderator: Jim Sparks, Geographic Information Officer, Office of Technology, State of Indiana E.J. McNaughton, GIS Coordinator, Department of Environmental Management, State of Indiana Jeffrey Motz, ASAP Manager, Department of Transportation, State of Indiana Joanna Wood, Senior Environmental Manager, Department of Environmental Management, State of Indiana Government is a Cool Place to WorkPorterEveryone’s talking about the difficulty in recruiting and retaining IT people in government. It’s not just salary disparities; government often isn’t seen as an innovative place to work. This session will challenge that theory by demonstrating initiatives that prove government can be at the forefront of technology, provide great work/life balance and meaningful outcomes, as well as concrete best practices for recruiting and retaining the best technology workers. Ken Clark, Chief Operating Officer, Information Services Agency, City of Indianapolis and Marion County Beth Howen, Chief Information Officer, Information Services Agency, City of Indianapolis and Marion County Sponsor Briefing (2:00 pm – 2:50 pm)Shields(Industry sponsors only.) Whether that’s good or bad depends on one’s point of view. Dr. Richard Baker, Director, Center for Unmanned Systems and Human Capital Development, Indiana State University David Kane, Executive Director, Department of Homeland Security, State of Indiana Virtual Reality in GovernmentVirtual reality has gone from a science fiction pipe dream to practical reality.
