Envision: A State and Local Government IT Summit 2022 Banner

Overview

The Center for Digital Government has always been focused on bringing together the finest minds in state and local government IT to envision the future. This exciting and interactive event serves as a catalyst for key technology leaders as they prepare for the future.

This invitation-only event consists of IT leaders from city, county and state government organizations from around the country. The theme of the event was: “The answer is in the room.” Out of this event came opportunities to learn from your peers, a quick growth in everyone’s “go to” network for brainstorming and an opportunity to share the work you all do so well.

The Next Wave of Leaders

Leadership is an ever-evolving skill that must be nurtured if the next level professionals will be ready to take charge. Tough issues – like facing impending retirements, skillset shortages and retention of employees – are top of mind. New challenges – like the pressing need for digital equity – will confront the leaders of tomorrow and reshape communities across the nation. How will governments rebuild their leadership ranks to tackle these tough issues? Does the next level have the foundational knowledge to take the lead? CIOs and their deputies will engage as they explore the current state and future possibilities for building the leaders of tomorrow.

Cybersecurity – What is the Role of the Enterprise CIO, CISO in Managing the Endpoint?

The best-laid plans of cybersecurity professionals are only as good as their weakest links, especially in the worlds of transportation, law enforcement and public health. Robust secure architecture is always at the top of the priority list. What happens when the weak link is the user endpoint? How do you secure what you minimally control? Join CIOs and CISOs as they dive deep into what it will take to secure everything from the beginning to the end.

The Intersection of Business and Technology

Technology is only as good as those that use it for delivering the best services. It is never easy to build the right tools for the end-users, so creating the right relationships is a must. Who are the right leaders to engage to get the right results? Do CIOs speak the language of the business and vice versa? This session will have CIOs and their next-level leadership discuss what it takes to engage stakeholders the best way possible.

Technology changes so rapidly that it is almost impossible to keep up. Emerging tech can also muddy the waters as a strategic plan is created and executed. Are you taking advantage of the latest and the greatest? What is out there you should know about? Government technology leaders will shine a light on where tech is going in the future.

The Best and the Worst on Procurement – What is Industry Seeing?

The recent crisis made procurement move at the speed of light compared to what was done pre-pandemic. Getting things done fast was a positive result, but what will happen now? Governments are trying to innovate but are very concerned that procurement could again be a barrier as everyone brings back pre-pandemic processes. Our industry experts who work with governments to get the right solutions into the right hands at the right time will share their best practices to help break down barriers which impede the ability to innovate. The discussion will generate new ideas on how to get from the discussion with a CIO to a solution in hand, including how to speed up the procurement process while remaining transparent.

Transition and Continuity Post Election

Elections in today’s world are anything but normal. The ideological pendulum is swinging each cycle more than at any time in the past. Elections this year were no different. What does the future hold now that the dust is settling? Is the status quo at risk more now than ever? CIOs know this transition better than anyone in government today and this session will bring forward the good, the bad and the ugly.

Around the Horn

The summit will close with a look at the discussions that have taken place over the past day and a half – both in sessions and in the opportunities to network and engage with peers and partners. We will open up to a roundtable discussion to explore challenges in greater detail. What did we learn from our discussions? How has it prepared us to return to our leadership roles? What do we need to do next to grow our organizations to face the future with a drive to continue to make government better?
