Government Technology’s passion is helping spread best practices and spurring innovation in the public sector. The Colorado Digital Government Summit is designed to do just that. The summit has an advisory board that gathers public- and private-sector leaders to create an agenda designed to make that passion relevant and actionable to the state and local government organizations attending the summit. Participants tell us they use the inspirational keynotes, leadership discussions, networking breaks, and the timely topics discussed in the numerous breakout sessions to help advance the goals of their organizations.
This Year’s Topics Include:
"Keeping up with the speed of technology is no easy task – especially in the public sector. This annual event is a great way for public sector leaders to stay abreast of best practices, engage with peers in discussions about our challenges and share innovative solutions with one another. I hope you will join me in a day of learning and networking at the Colorado Digital Government Summit!"
- Suma Nallapati, Secretary of Technology & State Chief Information Officer

Opening Keynote – Find Your VoiceCapitol Ballroom 4Jim Meskimen, Master Impressionist and Communication Coach Today’s culture emphasizes the value of teamwork and collaboration, sometimes at the expense of the individual. This is particularly true in the IT arena where you can sometimes find yourself stereotyped, or even worse, not taken seriously by potential stakeholders. What good are insights and solutions if your words get lost in the crowd? You need to make sure that you’re heard! Jim Meskimen has spent the past 25 years studying the most famous, creative and interesting people in modern times. In this fascinating and amusing session, Jim discusses – and illustrates – the traits and methods used by some of the best and most charismatic communicators in the world. Don’t settle for being “one of the crowd”. YOU have a unique identity. YOU have a voice! |

Concurrent SessionsGovernment is a Cool Place to WorkCapitol Ballroom 1Everyone’s talking about the difficulty in recruiting and retaining IT people in government. It’s not just salary disparities, but government often is not seen as an innovative place to work. This session will challenge that theory by demonstrating initiatives that prove government can be at the forefront of technology, provide great work/life balance and meaningful outcomes. Concrete best practices for recruiting and retaining the best technology workers will also be discussed. Steve Clagg, Chief Information Officer, Division of Support Services – Information Technology, Aurora Public Schools Brandon Williams, Director, Google Operations, Governor’s Office of Information Technology, State of Colorado A Mobile ColoradoCapitol Ballroom 2In an increasingly connected society, smart devices, gadgets and sensors are ubiquitous and inescapable. Phil Bertolini, Deputy County Executive, Chief Information Officer Oakland County, Michigan Scott Cardenas, Chief Information Officer, City and County of Denver David McCurdy, Chief Technology Officer, Governor's Office of Information Technology, State of Colorado Enterprise Analytics – Turning Data into KnowledgeCapitol Ballroom 5With growing demand for government IT organizations to embrace a ‘digital first’ strategy, data is emerging as the most important currency to improve government service delivery, provide new services, reduce the cost of delivering existing services and cut waste and fraud. Government agencies have no shortage of data from which to extract actionable insights, but you can’t gain insights from unstructured data scattered across your enterprise. This session looks at how to capitalize on existing data and its potential worth to government agencies, challenges of leveraging disparate data silos and formats to deliver next generation information-based services, offer real world examples of government organizations that are exploiting data assets to fundamentally change how they are operating. Concurrent SessionsOpen Data GovernanceCapitol Ballroom 1Open government and transparency are often unattainable without an aggressive open data strategy. Data empowers citizens – but only if it is valuable information and only if it is in a form that is easy to understand and use. Otherwise, all the hard work just goes to waste. This session looks at how to effectively use open data to streamline, improve upon, and amplify citizen relationships. Andrew Cole, Program Manager, Go Code Colorado, Secretary of State’s Office, State of Colorado Michelle Gore, Chief Data Officer, Governor’s Office of Information Technology, State of Colorado The Wide World of the Internet of ThingsCapitol Ballroom 2The Internet of Things is as vast as it sounds – it encompasses every object that’s able to exchange data through electronics, software, sensors or connectivity. From smart water meters, to connected street lights, the already huge expanse continues to grow. So how can this information be used to an organization’s advantage? This session explores the relationship between the Things and government organizations. Phil Bertolini, Deputy County Executive, Chief Information Officer Oakland County, Michigan Tim Brooks, Principal, Business Development, Big Data Practice, World Wide Technology Broadband AccessCapitol Ballroom 3Policy makers have identified broadband as a critical infrastructure to help grow our state’s economy. It can be a catalyst for businesses to grow and expand, students to have access to greater educational opportunities, patients and doctors to connect without leaving their communities, and citizens to engage with their government. While more citizens have access to broadband, those that remain unserved and underserved are increasingly difficult to connect with and public/private partnerships play a critical role. This session will explore best practices and solutions to increasing broadband access for Colorado. Moderator: Jeff Gavlinski, Co-Chair, Mountain Connect Panelists: Mike Brazell, District 1 Commissioner, Park County Chris Prekopa, Director of Sales, Western Region, Comcast Brian Shepherd, Broadband Program Manager, Governor’s Office of Information Technology, State of Colorado |
