Featured Speaker – A Results Revolution – Arizona’s Strategy to Be the Best Run State in AmericaRegency Ballroom C/DJohn M. Bernard, Founder and Chairman, Mass Ingenuity (@johnmbernard) Focused on measurable results, Arizona is developing a strategy to systematically become the best-run state in America. Does IT have a role to play? Absolutely. The process underway in the state will align every employee to measures that matter and engage them in process improvement through an intentional Lean-based system of management. The effort will drive focus on the areas where processes are falling short of meeting customer needs, and will ensure processes are improved before they are considered for automation. Automation will be used where it meets a set of rigorous requirements to improve customer experience and reduce costs, and where the approach has leverage beyond single processes. Technology will play a key role in the results required to become the best-run state in America. |

Concurrent SessionsCloud Today – What It Means for the Business of GovernmentRemingtonToday, almost anything can be delivered via the Cloud “as a service”: software, infrastructure, storage, platforms, data, you name it. The possibilities and configurations are endless, and they introduce a variety of challenges and opportunities. This session explores the nature of cloud computing today and how it fits into government operations including a discussion on your cloud management stack, contracting for cloud services, risk management and security. Niels Goldstein, Director, Emerging Technology Practice Cloud Solutions, CGI Rachna Srivastava, Senior Vertical Marketing Manager, State, Local Government and Education, Nutanix Expectations of a Constantly Connected GenerationRussellTechnology is transforming society in fundamental ways as new generations grow up using digital devices before they can even walk or talk. 24/7 connectivity and engagement are taken for granted, and citizens expect their government to follow suit. This session discusses the challenges and opportunities that IT professionals face as they prepare to meet these expectations. Carl Drescher, Technology Services Director, Town of Marana Ryan Sadler, Application Services Manager, Department of Health Services, State of Arizona Lean in ArizonaBoreinLean Principles’ have moved off the factory floor and evolved into an effective tool for project managers to streamline the project cycle from the top down. Featured Speaker – How to Shake Things Up and Live to Tell the TaleRegency Ballroom C/DTeri Takai, Former CIO of U.S. Department of Defense, State of California and State of Michigan (@teritakai) Teri Takai is one of the most respected and influential CIOs in the country. Teri is most well-known for her public sector roles, starting in budget-torn Michigan where she led the state to the #1 ranking in the Digital States Survey four years in a row. Never one to back down from a challenge, she next accepted a plea from Governor Schwarzenegger to put California’s struggling technology efforts back on track. And if that wasn’t enough, Teri next took on the job of heading up the largest IT budget in the world, a budget matched only by the scope of its problems and complexities. In each locale, she was tasked with driving disruptive change. Her biggest takeaway: No job is too small to make a big impact – but there are right ways and wrong ways to go about it. In this captivating session, Teri shares her extraordinary experiences and lessons learned. |

Fast Track SessionsRegency Ballroom C/DCognitive TechnologiesCognitive is defined as intellectual activity (i.e., thinking, reasoning or remembering). In other words, what humans do. Cognitive technology thus means “able to perform tasks that only humans used to be able to do”, and it’s a science that is advancing exponentially. Are we in danger of becoming irrelevant? Not at all. Cognitive-based systems, such as IBM Watson, are designed not to replace us but to extend our cognition and free us to think more creatively. This session provides an introduction to a technology that has enormous potential and implications for government and society. Tim Paydos, Vice President, World Wide Government Cognitive Solutions Team, IBM (@timpaydos) The Watchful Eye of Location Based ServicesAt one time, GIS was a complex, unapproachable technology with no applicability for the layman. Then came mobility, location-based applications and GPS. Today, GIS is an increasingly vital component of government agencies’ work, helping employees make more intelligent, informed decisions, improving collaboration, increasing productivity and lowering costs. This session sheds a light on exactly how location based services are being applied for practical uses in government.
