Opening Keynote – What’s Your Story?Phoenix BallroomKelly Swanson, Strategic Narrative Specialist IT is an adventure. Or should be! Every project is a journey, and we need to be better at promoting what we’re doing and how much we’re accomplishing. It’s important to be able to paint a picture that resonates. Data alone is not enough anymore. It’s already over-used, mis-used, abused and fake-newsed. The key is wrapping your data in a way that makes people care. You need the secret ingredient that is probably missing from presentations, pitches, speeches and any situation where you are trying to get buy-in. In this mind-expanding session, you will find out how to go from manipulating to motivating, from communicating to connecting, from telling people what to do to making them want to do it. Learn from the master! |

This session provides an open dialogue on what can be done to individually and collectively win the tough security battles that loom over us every day. William A. (Butch) Grote Jr., Chief Information Officer, Texas Agriculture Nancy Rainosek, Chief Information Security Officer, State of Texas Matthew Vinton, Strategic Systems Consultant, Quest Artificial Intelligence and What It Means for GovernmentDoversWhen will human intelligence be replicated by machines? It’s getting closer by the day. When it finally does happen, it might well be the most disruptive technology in the history of the human race. The science of artificial intelligence has had its fits and starts but there are new advancements that bring it several steps closer to mimicking human thought, reactions and abilities. This session offers an introduction to some exciting – and slightly unnerving – breakthroughs and their potential impact on the future of government. Noopur Gupta, Sr. System Engineer, Travis County/ITS Daniele Loffreda, Advisor, Market Development, Ciena Internet of Things and Its Emerging Impact on GovernmentdeZavalaThe IoT is no longer solely a technology of the future. Practical uses are everywhere – improving flood control, wildlife protection, reducing traffic and earthquake alerts, to name a few. You can pretty much “sensorize” and connect anything. What’s daunting going forward is the sheer amounts of data that is being collected and the challenges and security headaches that come with it. This session takes a look at what’s on the horizon, how to cope with what’s coming, and most importantly, how to secure it all. Moderator: Todd Sander, Chief Information Officer, Lower Colorado River Authority Greg Flay, Chief Technology Officer, Austin Energy, City of Austin Tasker Generes, IoT Strategist, ServiceNow Dana Glover, Chief Information Officer, Department of Transportation, State of Texas Brian Helms, Director, Digital Architecture, Lower Colorado River Authority About Cloud EnvironmentsdeWittAs state and local governments move to the cloud at an increasing pace, they’re running into some common holdups, including the determination of which workloads are cloud-ready and which should continue to run in on-premise data centers. The bottom line: organizations should look into a comprehensive hybrid IT strategy! This session explores how to strike the right balance between on-prem control and cloud innovation. Mike Beddow, Public Market Cloud Leader, IBM Global Markets Bob Burwell, Chief Technology Officer, State and Local Government & Education, NetApp Diving into DevOpsRobertsonDevOps refers to the combination of cultural philosophies, practices, and tools that help speed up app development and service delivery.
