Government Technology’s passion is helping spread best practices and spurring innovation in the public sector. The Tennessee Digital Government Summit is designed to do just that. The summit has an advisory board that gathers public sector and private sector leaders to create an agenda designed to make that passion relevant and actionable to the state and local government organizations attending the summit. Participants tell us they use the inspirational keynotes, leadership discussions, networking breaks, and timely topics discussed in the numerous breakout sessions to help advance the goals of their organizations and their own career paths.

Concurrent SessionsCitizen Centric GovernmentRyman Room (Hotel Level 3)Tennessee is moving to citizen centric government. Delivering services to citizens is at the heart of what most government agencies do and citizens today expect more transparent, accessible, and responsive services and those expectations are rising. This session will show how some government agencies are successfully implementing a customer centric approach to service design and delivery by truly taking advantage of the technologies and approaches that best serve their citizens. Mark Bengel, Chief Information Officer, State of Tennessee Jeff Davis, Sales Manager, Customer Service Management, ServiceNow (@jeffreydavis49) Smarter Cities and IoTBelmont 3 (Hotel Level 3)It’s clear that smart technologies and IoT are the future of our communities. Is government ready for billions – soon to be trillions – of sensors and devices connected to one another that will transform our society? This session explores the role of government in using, exploiting, controlling and surviving the hyper-connected world of IoT and how it will affect our communities. Jamie Sullivan, Application Solutions Executive, IOT Solutions Group, AT&T Sean Telles, CISSP, CEA, Manager of Systems Engineering, Public Sector State and Local, ForeScout Technologies, Inc. Citizen Centric, User Experience (UX) DesignBelmont 2 (Hotel Level 3)As technology expands its reach to more devices, and more of our everyday lives, we are often presented with new design challenges and exciting opportunities along the way. With that growth comes a heightened expectation from our users, who demand interactions that delight and add value. Understanding their wants, needs and behavior are critical to the success of any digital project. User Experience (UX) Design puts the user first, and provides a roadmap to creating valuable, rich interactions across multiple devices and technologies. This session will explore how adopting a UX methodology allows for informed decision-making, fosters innovation and identifies roadblocks to usability. Learn how this citizen/user-centric approach provides the foundation for creating useful and usable products and introduce you to UX practices and case studies of successful web and mobile app projects related to the public sector. Paul Jurkovic, Creative Director, User Experience & Design, OnX Enterprise Solutions (@pjurkovic) Identity and Access ManagementBelmont 1 (Hotel Level 3)The security landscape is growing increasingly complex due to factors such as open government, data sharing, cloud, mobility, and escalating expectations by citizens and internal users – all of which open the door to an unsettling variety of risks and vulnerabilities. The best defense is effective access management. This session looks at strategies, tactics and technologies that are making an impact in the public and private sectors. Featured Speaker – The “Four R’s” of Workforce EngagementGrand Ballroom East/CentralDr. Trish Holliday, Chief Learning Officer, State of Tennessee There is good news and there is bad news. The bad news is that research indicates that employee engagement hovers around 30%, meaning that the majority feel disengaged to a degree. But the good news is that something can be done about it. This interactive and eye-opening session presents a “4R” strategy to increase engagement and create a high-performing workplace culture. You will learn new and improved ways to acquire top talent (Recruit), invest in the development and growth of employees (Retain), recognize and celebrate high performance (Reward), and guide your organization to greater efficiency and effectiveness (Reach). |

Concurrent SessionsPrivacy vs. Security: Do We Have to Choose?Ryman Room (Hotel Level 3)It’s been said that the debate between privacy and security is over, and privacy lost. Fortunately for us, that’s not quite true. There is now a convergence with data privacy and security. But there are pressures that need to be managed, including transparency, open data, national security, public safety, social media and consumer information. An astounding amount of our personal information is in the hands of third parties, including government agencies. First, we need to understand our data and then we protect it. So, no, it’s not a matter of choosing – it’s a responsibility to unite the efforts to effectively protect all our assets. Data is an asset, and every asset has a value. We value our citizens. Peter Gallinari, Chief Data Privacy Officer, Department of Finance & Administration, State of Tennessee Business and IT – Building a Successful RelationshipBelmont 3 (Hotel Level 3)This session is a non-technical discussion on how to successfully create relationships between IT and their business partners. Both business and IT leaders will engage in a candid discussion on best practices for implementing successful projects through collaborative business relationship management. Ross Pallan, Business Relationship Manager, Business & Information Services, Argonne National Laboratory (@rpallan) Smarter Cities and IoTBelmont 2 (Hotel Level 3)It’s clear that smart technologies and IoT are the future of our communities. Is government ready for billions – soon to be trillions – of sensors and devices connected to one another that will transform our society? This session explores the role of government in using, exploiting, controlling and surviving the hyper-connected world of IoT and how it will affect our communities. Daniele Loffreda, Advisor, State & Local Government, Education and Healthcare, Marketing Development and Consulting, Ciena Bob Patterson, Chief Strategist, IoT, Data & Analytics, NA Data Driven Enterprise Practice, Strategic Solutions Architecture, Enterprise Group, Hewlett Packard Enterprise Enabling Digital Transformation through Workflow AutomationBelmont 1 (Hotel Level 3)Digital has disrupted every industry. Your customers and citizens now expect the same digital interactions from the public sector that they get from the private sector. They expect online and offline communication to be personalized, efficient and connected. Many government jurisdictions across the country have recognized this gap and have embarked on projects focused on Citizen Centric Government, One Stop Shop Government Portals, and Citizen Self Service Portals. Yet, challenged with large legacy back end systems and resistance to incremental modernization, public sector organizations struggle to keep up with the changing technology landscape. While the dynamic portals grace the front end, behind the scenes the repetitive tasks performed by manual processes are prone to error and inefficiency. End-to-End automation is the key to reducing mistakes, lessening the need for supervision, increasing efficiency and lowering the operational expenses. This session will take you through the Workflow Automation tools and technologies needed to deliver digital experiences your customers will love.
