Overview

The Center for Digital Education hosted a Market Briefing event in Rancho Cordova, CA.

IT leaders from Sacramento area school districts were on hand for a special briefing on their technology plans for the coming years.

Twin Rivers Unified School District is working to provide its over 30,000 students with engaging and unwavering learning experiences. Twin Rivers believes in utilizing technology as a tool for both teaching and learning. Roseville Joint Union High School District has over 10,000 students for which it is working to provide technology tools that advance learning and instruction. The Sacramento County Office of Education supports over 30,000 students and believes that technological tools are mandatory in order to significantly enhance learning experiences.

The participants briefed the audience on district plans in a variety of topic areas, including computing infrastructure, mobile devices, digital content, professional development, cyber security and their plans to incorporate blended learning models.

This event allowed participants to:

• Hear directly from CIOs and technology leaders from area school districts
• Network with fellow industry leaders in the region
• Learn about the hot issues in the education IT market

Marie Criste

Coordinator of Instructional Technology, Roseville Joint Union High School District

Marie Criste is coordinator of instructional technology for Roseville Joint Union High School District in Northern California. For the past 17 years, she has been a passionate “ed tech” teacher at both the middle school and high school level. Marie coordinates training for teachers, administrators and staff on best practices to incorporate technology to accelerate learning, including three district-wide professional development days for over 500 educators based on best practices. She is also a board member of the local CUE affiliate, CapCUE, serves as vice chair of the Gold Country regional CETPA group and has presented at numerous conferences statewide on how to seamlessly integrate technology for communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking where learning is the driver and technology is the accelerator!

John Fleischman

Assistant Superintendent of Technology Services, Sacramento County Office of Education

John Fleischman is assistant superintendent of technology services at the Sacramento County Office of Education and is responsible for all information and educational technology operations. He possesses an extensive background with creating and implementing informational and instructional media for use in a variety of educational environments. His present area of focus is on building web-based solutions for education, including data management systems and comprehensive online learning resources. He also serves on a variety of advisory boards and committees for a number of different projects and organizations, including the Smarter Balanced Architectural Review Board, California Education Technology Task Force, California County Superintendents Educational Services Association and Computer Using Educators.

Mike Fury

Chief Technology Officer, Rocklin Unified School District

Mike Fury serves as the CTO for the Rocklin Unified School District, a high performing Sacramento-area suburban school district serving more than 11,000 students. He is responsible for all major areas of technology services for the organization and likes to challenge legacy thinking while working and leading collaboratively to help create effective 21st century student learning environments. He is a former small business owner who leverages his broad range of experience in retail, food service, construction, manufacturing, software development and education to align technology services with the organization’s strategic objectives. He has over 15 years of experience in K-12 technology leadership, serves as a mentor in the California Education Technology Professionals Association (CETPA) CTO Mentor Program and is chair of the Gold Country CETPA regional group.

Educational Technology Coordinator, Twin Rivers Unified School District

Lucas Machado is an educational technology coordinator at Twin Rivers Unified School District. He is responsible for facilitating technology-related professional learning for teachers, administrators and other staff. Recently, he has focused on improving administrative tasks and projects by thoughtfully integrating digital enhancements, as well as re-designing the teacher induction and alternative education programs. He also serves on the Capital CUE board.

Russ Selken is executive director of information and educational technology services at Twin Rivers Unified School District. He has worked in K-12 education for 20 years as a network manager, information technology manager and director of information technology services. His work as executive director includes responsibility for technology planning, budgeting, network design and implementation and support of over 60 administrative and educational applications. He has worked diligently to ensure a customer service driven technology and design department. At the same time, he is striving to be innovative with classroom technologies that engages 21st century learners (students).

Scott Shebley-Jonard

Educational Technology Coordinator, Twin Rivers Unified School District

Scott Shebley-Jonard is a father of three beautiful young children and husband to an amazing educator, mother and wife. He is also an educational technology coordinator at Twin Rivers USD and is responsible for the development of technology-focused professional learning opportunities for the 1,350 teachers and 3,000 classified staff for the district. Prior to this, he was an education specialist for six years at several comprehensive high schools that targeted low socio-economic and minority students. His present focus is on teacher development and project management, including creating dynamic data dashboards that provide focus and collaboration for projects of any size.
