IT leaders from some of the largest districts in the Sacramento area will be on hand for a special briefing on their technology plans, priorities and focus for the coming years. With 40,000 students and staff, San Juan Unified School District is committed to helping students develop and apply 21st century skills with regard to the application of technology. With close to 19,000 students, Folsom Cordova Unified School District places a high priority on improving teachers’ and students’ access to current technology tools. Natomas Unified School District has over 10,000 students and is focused on the use of technology to improve student achievement. With over 10,000 students, the Roseville Joint Union High School District is working to improve educational experiences through effective use of technology. The Sacramento County Office of Education believes that technological tools, software and infrastructure systems are mandatory components that significantly enhance teaching and learning context.

Carl Fahle

Senior Director of Technology, San Juan Unified School District

Carl Fahle is senior director of technology in the San Juan Unified School District, Sacramento, CA. With nearly 30 years of experience in education as a teacher, administrator, consulting educator, program manager and member of the district’s executive cabinet, he has chief responsibility for all of the district’s business and instructional technology systems, while bringing his vision and leadership to the work of supporting and improving operations and advancing instructional technology activities. His interest in computers began while earning a degree in music in the late 80s, initially experimenting with the application of MIDI as a classroom music specialist, and continued during his tenure as a classroom teacher and administrator developing assessment and reporting software.

John Fleischman

Assistant Superintendent of Technology Services, Sacramento County Office of Education

John Fleischman is assistant superintendent of technology services at the Sacramento County Office of Education and is responsible for all information and educational technology operations. He possesses an extensive background with creating and implementing informational and instructional media for use in a variety of educational environments. His present area of focus is on building web-based solutions for education, including data management systems and comprehensive online learning resources. He also serves on a variety of advisory boards and committees for a number of different projects and organizations, including the Smarter Balanced Architectural Review Board, California Education Technology Task Force, California County Superintendents Educational Services Association and Computer Using Educators.

Angela Herrera

Director of Instructional Technology, Natomas Unified School District

Angela Herrera has been with the Natomas Unified School District for 11 years as a teacher, principal and, now, director. She is director of school leadership and support. Her duties include overseeing the Instructional Technology Department, Science Pathways and CTE programs. As a district, Natomas is looking to make better, more consistent use of technology resources in an instructional setting.
