IT leaders from some of the largest districts in Colorado were on hand for a special briefing on their technology plans for the coming years. As the largest school district in Colorado, and one of the fastest growing urban school districts, Denver Public Schools serves over 87,000 students. The leadership at Denver Public Schools recognizes the importance of technology and information literacy for all of its students and is determined to prepare its students to be dynamic 21st century citizens. With over 28,000 students, Boulder Valley School District is committed to increasing student achievement and learning through classroom and media center use of technology to help ensure students are well prepared for a technology-rich society and workplace. Aurora Joint District serves over 39,000 students in 59 schools. Aurora believes in accelerating student learning by providing technology environments which are safe, enable student learning and maximize staff efficiency. Jefferson County School District (Jeffco) is committed to transforming learning spaces and creating virtual spaces to allow for the effective use of 21st century skills and tools to improve technology proficiency and prepare its students to be successful members of a global learning community.

The participants briefed the audience on district plans in a variety of topic areas, including computing infrastructure, mobile devices, digital content, professional development, cyber security and their plans to incorporate blended learning models.

Josh Allen

Director of Technical Architecture and Strategy, Denver Public Schools

Josh Allen is director of technical architecture and strategy at Denver Public Schools, a position that facilitates the enterprise and solutions architecture for the entire district. DPS is the fastest growing school district in the nation and, as a result, DPS has invested significantly in technology that allows teachers, principals, students and parents to manage their data that is key to the success of the district. In his role, Allen works across both academics and operations to ensure the success of the solutions that are implemented in schools, as well as central departments. In his tenure, he has taught both ECE and Montessori, as well as providing solutions for Denver Public Schools for the past 19 years.

Kirk Anderson

Kirk Anderson

Director of Educational Technology, Denver Public Schools

Kirk Anderson is director of Educational Technology at Denver Public Schools. He has worked for Denver Public Schools for nearly 20 years. He started in the classroom, then worked in IT support for years before transitioning to Educational Technology five years ago. He has overseen the district distribution of laptops to 5,000 teachers, the roll-out of Google Apps for Education and the administration of over $10 million in preparation for online assessments. In a portfolio management district, his team is dedicated to establishing systems that allow for teacher and school autonomy, along with the advantages of centralization. In his spare time, Anderson likes playing Frisbee, making movies and spending time with his wife and seven-year-old daughter.

Steven Clagg

Steven Clagg

Chief Information Officer, Aurora Public Schools

Steve Clagg is CIO for Aurora Public Schools, where he led a campaign to transform IT into a customer-focused service delivery team. A big believer in blended learning, he serves as an advisory board member of the Colorado eLearning Collaborative. As a result of the 2012 Aurora theatre shooting, Clagg became an advocate for school safety, is NIMS certified and has presented to school districts at the local and national level on school safety protocols. He also served as president of the Colorado Association of Leaders in Education Technology, developing a sell-out conference of over 180 School Education Technology leaders three years running.

Curtis Lee

Director of Data Quality and EdTech Support, Jefferson County School District

Curtis Lee is the IT director for Data Quality and EdTech Support with JeffCo Schools. He has held numerous IT leadership positions within K-12 education over the last 25 years in organizations of various sizes and demographic make-up. He is a happily married, washed up soccer player, with two teenage children and a couple of goofy dogs.

Andrew Moore

Andrew Moore

Chief Information Officer, Boulder Valley School District

Andrew Moore is CIO for Boulder Valley School District where he provides IT and ed tech services for 4,200 employees and over 30,000 students. Prior to joining the Boulder Valley School District, he was a senior director at Sun Microsystems, responsible for a global IT implementation team of program/project managers, database administrators, system administrators and network/security specialists. His government experience was developed during three terms as mayor of the Town of Erie, a 20,000-person suburb of Boulder. He was term limited in 2010. Moore holds degrees in computer science and sociology, is a certified Six Sigma professional, a graduate of the Rocky Mountain Executive Leadership program at CU Denver and a "50 for Colorado" alum at CU Boulder.
