We can now generate, store, access and use data in ways that were previously unimagined. Advanced technologies have made it possible to raise questions that give organizations insight into previously impenetrable topics. Unfortunately, many organizations are hampered in their efforts to maximize the potential of new data stores and new tools because their data is not ready for use. Research shows analysts spend as much as 80% of their time readying data before they can begin using it to ask questions to guide policy and strategy. In many cases, organizations don’t have a 21st century data management framework in place that ensures analysts will have access to data that is both ready and fit for use. This panel, which is Part 1 of a two-part program, will share insights about the cost to organizations of a lack of ready data and discuss the critical role of data governance in creating a set of enabling conditions for making data ready for use.
