Government Technology's passion is promoting best practices and spurring innovation in the public sector – more important than ever in challenging times like these. The Virtual Digital Government Summit offers a unique opportunity to explore a variety of technology topics and possibilities. We hope you were able to join us for a day of powerful sessions that provided inspiration, participation, education, and thought-provocation!
The conference is presented in a virtual format on Zoom for Government, a FedRAMP-certified infrastructure with advanced security controls, that is used for meetings and webinars by the Department of Homeland Security and numerous other federal, state and local agencies. Zoom for Government leverages one of the largest secured networks of government-specific datacenters in the country and meets high standards of security (Including: FedRAMP, CJIS, NIST, FISMA, SRG, FIPS, DFARS, EAR, IRS-1075).
Each Year New Jersey Digital Government Summit is a terrific conference that exposes both Government employees and our Vendor Partners to some of the most important technology challenges facing us today. Technology is more important than ever in the state’s operating functions and growth economy, and it is our duty to advocate innovation and supplier diversity as we provide top-notch services to our citizens. We just couldn’t accomplish this without our industry partners, and this event is the perfect place for us to collaborate, discuss challenges and share solutions. The time and effort to allocate a day away from our normal, daily schedules is a worthwhile investment and provides this fresh look. I am looking forward to seeing you there!

Keynote – Atomic Habits: How to Get 1% Better Every DayHow can you achieve dramatic improvement in your personal and professional life? The natural impulse is to attempt big steps to improve. However, taking big steps often results in failure or only temporary gains. You rarely see the permanent results you want. The key to successful change is small habits. In this enlightening talk, James Clear focuses on the science of small habits, how they work, and how their effects compound and multiply over time. You will come away with practical strategies that you can immediately apply in your daily life. James Clear, Habits Expert, #1 New York Times Bestselling Author |

Featured Speaker – The Future of Work and LeadershipThe Fourth Industrial Revolution is transforming the way we work, interact, and live our lives by blurring the boundaries between virtual and physical systems. Society will continue to be disrupted in countless ways, but Heather McGowan offers us a bit of reassurance: The future of work is human. We need managers and leaders who inspire and cultivate human potential in the face of constant digital disruption. In this thought-provoking session, Heather encourages us to rethink our systems of education and workforce development, our organization of work and workers, our process of talent attraction and retention, and even ourselves. Heather McGowan, Future of Work Strategist, Co-Author of The Adaptation Advantage |

Featured Speakers – Cybersecurity’s Weakest LinkCan we ever be 100% digitally secure in this age of IoT, cloud, mobility, data-sharing, hacktivism, cyberwarfare, et al.? The answer, of course, is no. But at the same time, failure is not an acceptable option for stewards of private information. What can we do to improve the odds? The biggest payoff comes from understanding and shoring up the “human factor”. This session takes a no-nonsense look at how, why and where things tend to go wrong. Brian Linder, Cybersecurity Threat Evangelist, Office of the CTO, Check Point Software Joe Morris, Vice President of Research, Center for Digital Government |

Concurrent SessionsCloud Trends and StrategiesFaced with serious economic and social challenges, governments organizations are in search of ways to increase scalability, agility, accessibility, and cost efficiency. In times like these, it is incumbent on us to get more out of the resources we already control. There are many ways to go about it, including enhancing training, following through on implementations, thinking outside the box, and taking advantage of modernization tools. This session discusses how to turn the tide on under-utilization. Moderator: Otto Doll, Senior Fellow, Center for Digital Government Shonte Eldridge, Executive Government Advisor, Amazon Web Services Bernadette Kucharczuk, Chief Information Officer, City of Jersey City Jean-guy Lauture, Chief Information Officer and IT Director, Township of Bloomfield Lee Micai, Department Head, Board of Social Services, County of Mercer The Power of Data SharingData played a starring role in COVID response, and it showed us what is possible when we adopt a share first mentality. Longstanding barriers have been broken, and now is the time to build on the momentum. This session discusses the benefits, mindsets and strategies that make data sharing a rewarding and viable experience. Moderator: Teri Takai, Co-Director, Center for Digital Government Daniel J. Concurrent SessionsNavigating the Cyber Threat LandscapeAs organizations move toward hybrid (remote vs. in-office) workforces on a long-term basis, and households are increasingly reliant on digital devices for government interactions, bad actors are zealously ferreting out new vulnerabilities to exploit. The landscape is changing fast, and now is the time to be future-focused. This session takes a close look at emerging trends and promising solutions in cybersecurity. Moderator: Joe Morris, Vice President of Research, Center for Digital Government Sean Frazier, Federal Chief Security Officer, Okta, Inc. Michael Geraghty, Director of New Jersey Cybersecurity and Communications Integration Cell and Chief Information Security Officer, Office of Homeland Security and Preparedness, State of New Jersey Bindu Sundaresan, Director, AT&T Cybersecurity, AT&T Transforming the Government ExperienceThe events of last year pushed government organizations to fast-track plans and strategies to digitize government services. Unfortunately, the people who were most in need were often the least technology-savvy. It is now clear that service delivery must be transformed with more intuitive frameworks and easier access. This session explores innovative ways to better engage and support our customers at every level. Moderator: Alan Cox, Executive Vice President and Publisher, Government Technology magazine Jay Migliozzi, Enterprise Account Executive, Public Sector, DocuSign Scott Loudon, Information Technology Supervisor, Motor Vehicle Commission, State of New Jersey Andy Powell, State and Local Government Enterprise Account Executive, Adobe Readiness, Responsiveness and ResilienceThe pandemic brought our society to its collective knees, but IT teams excelled in standing things back up quickly. Along the way, we learned some valuable lessons, one of which is that the next virus, fire, freeze, flood, or earthquake is just around the corner. This session asks (and answers) the question: “With what we know now, what will we do differently next time?” Moderator: Steve Towns, Deputy Chief Content Officer, Content Studio, Government Technology J. General Session – Preparing for the Post-Pandemic WorkplaceOrganizations have undergone a paradigm shift and there is no going back to pre-pandemic norms. While it is probably impractical to sustain a dominant remote-first work environment, it is clearly unrealistic to insist on “office-first.” Hybrid is our future. What will this look like in New Jersey? Can we keep a dispersed workforce engaged over the long term? How do we create a culture that fits the times we live in? Should we be thinking differently about technology and security? In this session, a panel of thought-leaders explores possibilities, probabilities, and lessons learned. Moderator: Ed Chapel, Senior Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, NJEDge.net Nicholas Behmke, Director of Information Technology, Office of Legislative Services, Information Technology Unit, State of New Jersey Marc Pfeiffer, Assistant Director, Bloustein Local Government Research Center, Rutgers University Joseph Rivera, Chief Technology Officer, City of Trenton |
