Government Technology's passion is helping spread best practices and spurring innovation in the public sector. The Nevada Digital Government Summit is designed to do just that. The summit has an advisory board that gathers public sector and private sector leaders to create an agenda designed to make that passion relevant and actionable to the state and local government organizations attending the summit. Participants tell us they use inspirational keynotes, leadership discussions, networking breaks, and timely topics discussed in the numerous breakout sessions to help advance the goals of their organizations and their own career paths.
Topics Include:
We are transforming IT operations in Nevada and I invite everyone to take part in the 14th annual Digital Government Summit. We need to explore our challenges and turn them into successes, but this is only possible if we encourage the conversations to get us there. The Summit in December is the perfect way to help turn ideas into actions. I hope you will join us!

Keynote – Technology is Indispensable, But What About You?Grand Ballroom I/IIPat Bodin, Founder and CEO, In the Boat Today, our organizations are experiencing rapid change and business leaders can’t afford to make decisions without technologists in the mix. Technologists are essential, but our value is not based solely on technical competency. Our importance is also grounded on our ability to prioritize, execute within context, measure what matters and enable our organizations. In this lively session, Pat helps us connect what we do to business goals and shows us how to establish our relevance where it counts the most. |

Concurrent SessionsThe Human Side of SecurityDel Mar IIdentity theft. Ransomware. Phishing. Spoofing. Fake hotspots. Social media stalking. Location tracking. The list goes on. How vulnerable are we? Well… more than most of us realize. Did you know that a criminal can use a photo of your key ring to make duplicates on a 3D printer? In cybersecurity, the weakest links aren’t necessarily the systems but much softer targets – the people. This session focuses on strategies, tactics, prioritization and potential resources to use when securing your organization from every angle. John Jacobs, VP of Systems Engineering, Fortinet Craig Matusz, Senior Manager, Security Solutions, Verizon Shaun Rahmeyer, Administrator, Office of Cyber Defense Coordination, State of Nevada Cities of the FutureDel Mar IIThe concept of smart cities has been around for a decade, but it’s only in the last few years that it’s really picked up steam. The technology drivers are well known: sensors, Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning, artificial intelligence, 5g wireless, fiber networks, big data, et al. But implementation is another matter. There are a lot of moving parts. This session shares efforts being made regionally to define, assess, prioritize and strategize a smart evolution. Moderator: Angela Castro, Senior Director of Government Affairs, Media & Marketing, Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada Laura Fucci, Chief Information Officer, City of Henderson Michael Lane, Chief Information Officer, Clark County Daniele Loffreda, Senior Advisor, SLED, Ciena Michael Lee Sherwood, Director, Information Technologies, City of Las Vegas Preparing for the Future IT Workforce NowDel FuegoThe looming retirement wave is driving the need for more innovative recruitment and retention practices in government at all levels, particularly in IT. Questions about diversity, mobility, flexibility, collaborative workspaces and ongoing education are becoming common during the interview process. Yet government is not always prepared to offer competitive answers in today’s legacy environment. This session offers a look at what some innovative organizations are doing to scrap outmoded practices, adopt new mindsets and embrace new paradigms. Moderator: Manny Lamarre, Executive Director, Governor’s Office of Workforce Innovation, State of Nevada Lee Grant, PMO Manager, Department of Information Technology, City of Henderson Robert Vega, Deputy Chief Information Officer, Clark County |

General Session – Rethinking Transformation - Small Wins for Big ResultsGrand Ballroom I/IIThere are a lot of radical ideas out there that promise big impact for the way governments operate and deliver services. But these ideas also bring their fair share of challenges. The public sector can sometimes be left behind as it copes with statutes and limitations that prevent immediate adoption of the latest and greatest technologies and innovations. This panel of respected change agents discusses tangible ways government can keep up with the trends and get things done one step at a time. Moderator: Michael Dietrich, Chief Information Officer, State of Nevada Nadia Hansen, Deputy Chief Information Officer, Clark County Lester Lewis, Deputy Director of Information Technology, City of Las Vegas Shawn Price, Project Manager, Requordit Devon Winthrop, Principal Architect, AT&T |

Otherwise there will be inefficiencies, missed opportunities and blunted economic development. This session focuses on exciting new tools and approaches for identifying, streamlining and sharing critical information across the enterprise. Zeke Bishop, Enterprise Cloud Architect, Public Sector, Oracle Procurement – the Good, the Bad and the UglyDel FuegoWhere there’s frustration there’s opportunity, right? So that means procurement must offer an awful lot of opportunity! Some things to look into are: How can we leverage contracts and purchasing power to save more time and money? Is there anything we can do to make the process smoother for providers? Is there a way to better manage vendor contracts and relations? This session explores ways to turn procurement into something more sublime to all parties involved. Fast Track SessionsGrand Ballroom I/IIImproving the Citizen ExperienceUber, Amazon, Alexa, Siri, Airbnb – these are just a few of the innovations that have given rise to entirely new paradigms in customer experience. Can government do the same? Absolutely! There’s no other choice. Sooner or later, it must be done. The good news is that it’s closer and more attainable than one might expect. This session looks at some innovative tools and strategies that will revamp and revitalize government’s relationship with its citizens. Brent Nagareda, Data Processing System Analyst, Department of Information Technology, City and County of Honolulu Artificial Intelligence and What It Means for GovernmentWhen will human intelligence be replicated by machines? It’s getting closer by the day. When it finally does happen, it might well be the most disruptive technology in the history of humans. The science of artificial intelligence has had its fits and starts but there are new advancements that bring it several steps closer to mimicking human thought, reactions and abilities. This session offers an introduction to some exciting – and slightly unnerving – breakthroughs and their potential impact on the future of government. Derrick Calderon, Director of Smart Cities, Cox2M Leadership Wit and WisdomSage advice can go a long way. Whether you are a leader now or looking to be in the future, we can all stand to benefit from holding a leader’s mindset. This session features regional leadership sharing words of wisdom that have most influenced and shaped their paths towards success…some nuggets might be relatively basic while others cutting edge.
