Government Technology’s passion is helping spread best practices and spurring innovation in the public sector. The Missouri Digital Government Summit is designed to do just that. The summit has an advisory board that gathers public sector and private sector leaders to create an agenda designed to make that passion relevant and actionable to the state and local government organizations attending the summit. Participants tell us they use the inspirational keynotes, leadership discussions, networking breaks, and timely topics discussed in the numerous breakout sessions to help advance the goals of their organizations and their own career paths.

Keynote – Hacking the Learning CurveMissouri/Capital/Truman RoomBronkar Lee, Peak Performance Expert, Author, Speaker and Dynamic Performer (@BronkarLee) We live and work in a fast-paced, high-pressure world, and if we’re not gaining new skills and continuously upping our games we risk being left behind. Not just in our jobs but in our personal lives. On the bright side, there’s never been a better time to learn for the simple reason that knowledge and information have never been more easily obtainable. But transforming information into ability isn’t so easy. And that’s where Bronkar excels. His unique learning system shortens the runway for anyone, regardless of their goals, interests or inherent talents. In this unforgettable presentation, Bronkar shows us how to re-energize our approach to skill acquisition and hands us the key to unlock our passion for learning. |

Concurrent SessionsCloud GovernanceLincoln Banquet RoomToday, it’s tough to find an organization that doesn’t depend on the cloud for something critical. The question is no longer whether to venture into the cloud, yes or no. Now it’s a matter of “How, what, when and where?” Understanding and anticipating risks, limitations, scope and accountability are critical to success. This session explores the factors to consider before going “all in” (or even partway). Kevin Gilmore, Manager, Applications and Systems Administration Group, Missouri Research and Education Network (MOREnet) Jason Guibert, Cloud Solutions Architect, Management Consulting, World Wide Technology David Veit, Technical Architect, Information Technology Services Division, State of Missouri Optimizing the Workforce and Workplace of TomorrowJefferson Room B/CState and local government organizations are increasingly challenged to attract and retain IT staff. Retirement, private sector competition, changing technology portfolios and evolving workplace expectations are beginning to stack up against traditional government workplace practices. Questions about mobility, collaboration spaces and tools are becoming common during the interview process and government is not always prepared to offer competitive answers in today’s fluid and highly-competitive job market. This session offers a look at what some innovative organizations are doing to scrap outmoded practices and embrace new paradigms. James Carlson, Senior Lead Product Manager, Business Channel Marketing, CenturyLink 365 Days of SunshineJefferson Room AOpen government isn’t just a trend – it’s the future. To quote Star Trek: Resistance is futile! There are just too many tangible benefits and too many political pressures to ignore. But document management and simply making data available aren’t the biggest challenges; it’s deciding where to draw the line in this age of social media, Internet of Things, and a surfeit of personally identifiable information. This session discusses the pitfalls to avoid and key factors in deciding just how much sunshine you can bear without being burned. Margaret (Peggy) Landwehr, Special Counsel, Administration, Division of Legal Services, Department of Social Services, State of Missouri Rochelle Reeves, Director of Legal Services, Missouri Lottery |

General Session – Cybersecurity: Then and NowMissouri/Capital/Truman RoomIn the world of cyber security, five years can be a lifetime. The landscape is evolving far too fast, and what worked just a few years ago probably won’t work today. On the other hand, some things never seem to change, such as the answer to the question “Are we secure yet?” In this session, an expert panel bravely reflects on just how far we’ve come and how far we still need to go. Be prepared to laugh, to cry, and to face some surprising realities. Moderator: Drew Erdmann, Chief Operating Officer, State of Missouri Terry Hect, Chief Security Strategist, AT&T Michael Roling, Chief Information Security Officer, Information Technology Services Division, State of Missouri Sean Telles, Manager of Systems Engineering, Public Sector State & Local, ForeScout Technologies |

Steve McCluskey, Manager – Solutions Architect, IoT Development, Verizon Michael Roling, Chief Information Security Officer, Information Technology Services Division, State of Missouri Reinventing the Citizen ExperienceJefferson Room B/CWe live in a highly interactive and fast-paced society, and people are getting more demanding about, well, everything. The pressure is mounting on government services, too, and one of the Governor’s top priorities is to make “citizen-centric” more than just a buzzword. This session takes a look at some creative strategies to remake government’s relationship with its customers into something more stimulating, rewarding and efficient. Ritchie Jenkins, Information Technology Business Development Manager, Department of Conservation, State of Missouri Deepti Manglik, Information Technology Information Management Manager, Department of Conservation, State of Missouri Deepak Mohapatra, Global Industry Leader, Government Industry Solutions, IBM (representing Huber and Associates) More with Less – It’s Not Just a ClichéJefferson Room AIn the quest for increased efficiencies and cost savings, technology continues to blaze new trails. Fast Track SessionsMissouri/Capital/Truman RoomKansas City in ActionKansas City is considered by many to be the most connected Smart City in the world, and they’re not resting on their laurels. In their view, success is all about innovation, civic partnerships, and plenty of hard work. This session provides an inspiring update on what they’ve accomplished, where they’re headed, and why they so strongly believe that creative use of technology is the best way to ensure an auspicious future for their community. Bob Bennett, Chief Innovation Officer, City of Kansas City (@kc_cio) Don’t Take the Bait!Government organizations are under attack and the stakes have never been higher. Threats of all types are increasingly sophisticated and better organized. Spearfishing and ransomware are becoming full-fledged industries with remarkably low barriers to entry. This session takes an unflinching look at what we’re up against and how to avoid becoming a prize catch. Michael Roling, Chief Information Security Officer, Information Technology Services Division, State of Missouri Artificial Intelligence and Big DataWhat happens when Big Data gets too big to be useful? There is a limit to how much humans can analyze by using traditional software and analytics. Enter artificial intelligence (AI), which is advancing to a point where it can cut through Big Data like a knife through hot butter. This session takes a look at an inventive application of AI that is making a real impact on people’s lives.
