KeynoteWhat’s Your Story?Windsor Ballroom I/IIKelly Swanson, Strategic Narrative Specialist IT is an adventure. Or should be! Every project is a journey, and we need to be better at promoting what we’re doing and how much we’re accomplishing. It’s important to be able to paint a picture that resonates. Data alone is not enough anymore. It’s already over-used, mis-used, abused and fake-newsed. The key is wrapping your data in a way that makes people care. You need the secret ingredient that is probably missing from presentations, pitches, speeches and any situation where you are trying to get buy-in. In this mind-expanding session, you will find out how to go from manipulating to motivating, from communicating to connecting, from telling people what to do to making them want to do it. Learn from the master! |

Concurrent SessionsNavigating the CloudWindsor Ballroom IIIAs state and local governments move to the cloud at an increasing pace, they’re running into some common holdups, including the determination of which workloads are cloud-ready and which models are most appropriate. The bottom line: organizations should have a comprehensive cloud strategy – one that considers the right balance between on-prem control and cloud innovation. This session discusses current trends and lessons learned. Peter Cipriano, Senior Enterprise Architect, Unisys Mohammed Jalaluddin, PMP, Chief Information Officer, Department of Employment Security, State of Mississippi Doug Mays, Manager, Product Management, C Spire Cybersecurity Resources – You’re Not AloneWindsor Ballroom IV/VThere is no hotter topic right now than cybersecurity. And it goes without saying that no government should stand alone in cyber conflicts. There is strength in numbers. This session provides an open dialogue on what tools and resources are available within this region to collectively win the tough security battles that loom over us every day. Tara Brewer, Analyst, Cybersecurity Advisor (CSA) Program, Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), US Department of Homeland Security Tracy D. Dover, Intelligence Officer, US Department of Homeland Security Data RevolutionChurchillIt’s a common refrain that government should operate more like an enterprise. This approach holds true in some ways more than others, but it particularly applies to data and how it’s used – or not used – in meaningful ways. It all starts with data sharing and open data. But why isn’t it done enough? Are the barriers cultural, legal or technical? This session explores the obstacles to data sharing and the tools and strategies that will take us from siloed data to actionable information. Ben Cohen, Chief Information Officer, Department of Transportation, State of Mississippi Steven Grice, Deputy Executive Director, National Strategic Planning and Analysis Research Center (NSPARC), Mississippi State University A Workplace Culture for the FutureWinston BallroomDoes your team have all the personnel and skills you could ever desire? Do you feel unequivocally sure that you can attract and retain the talent you need going forward? If you answered yes to both questions… well… no one will believe you. In the years ahead, workforce issues will rival cybersecurity as the #1 source of anxiety and lost sleep. But there’s hope! This session provokes thoughts and builds confidence as it covers creative approaches for the 2020’s.
