Government Technology’s passion is helping spread best practices and spurring innovation in the public sector. The Minnesota Digital Government Summit is designed to do just that. The summit has an advisory board that gathers public sector and private sector leaders to create an agenda that is relevant and actionable to the state and local government organizations attending the summit. Participants can take advantage of inspirational keynotes, leadership discussions, networking breaks, and timely topics discussed in the numerous breakout sessions to help advance the goals of their organizations and their own career paths.

The Minnesota Digital Government Summit is an annual opportunity that brings public sector and industry partners together into the broader conversation around innovation and service delivery. Taking the time to intentionally connect and learn from each other is critical as we collaborate to build on the processes and methodologies that enhance Minnesotans’ digital experience with state services.

Keynote – What’s Your Story?Grand Ballroom A/B/CKelly Swanson, Strategic Narrative Specialist IT is an adventure. Or should be! Every project is a journey, and we need to be better at promoting what we’re doing and accomplishing by painting pictures that resonate. Data alone is not enough anymore. It’s already over-used, mis-used, abused and fake-newsed. The key is wrapping your data in a way that makes people care. You need the secret ingredient that is probably missing from presentations, pitches, speeches and any situation where you are trying to move the needle. In this mind-expanding session, you will find out how to go from manipulating to motivating, from communicating to connecting, from telling people what to do to making them want ton from the master! |

Concurrent SessionsCloud StrategiesMeeting Room 2/3A successful cloud journey requires well-thought-out infrastructure and smart governance every step of the way. Decisions include dealing with processes, monitoring, security, data management, contracting, scalability, service levels and more. This session outlines the most critical factors to consider when operating in the cloud. Tim Sandage, Sr. Security Strategist, Public Sector, Amazon Web Services Curtis Wray, Senior Manager Security Architectures, Proofpoint Reinventing the Government ExperienceMeeting Room 5/6We don’t expect the public sector to be just like Uber or Lyft, but they are accustomed to a certain level of ease when it comes to buying and receiving goods and services - typically through a click of a button on their smartphone. In this fast-paced world and a soaring demand to be customer-centric, how does government keep up? This session dives into why standing still isn’t an option and why it’s critical to drive forward with innovative citizen experience strategies in mind. Chris Dilley, Chief Technical Officer, ServiceNow Ryan Mulhall, Network Services Bureau Chief, Iowa Communications Network Data Sharing RevolutionMeeting Room 4It’s a common refrain that government should operate more like an enterprise. This approach holds true in some ways more than others, but it particularly applies to data and how it’s used – or not used – in meaningful ways. It all starts with data sharing. But why isn’t it done enough? Are the barriers cultural, legal or technical? This session explores the obstacles to data sharing and the tools and strategies that will take us from siloed data to actionable information. Featured Speaker – Getting into the Mind of a CybercriminalGrand Ballroom A/B/CHayley Cohen, X-Force Command, Executive Advisory, IBM Security We read about hacks and breaches on a daily basis – attacks conducted by cybercriminals that result in millions of compromised credentials, loss of millions of dollars or denial of service attacks that can almost bring the internet to a halt. But how do these underground groups conduct these attacks, where do they communicate and coordinate and what products and services do they buy and sell? In this session, we will dive into the world of organized cybercrime and get into the mind of a cybercriminal. We will learn basic hacking techniques, see how easy it is to gain information on a target, and visit underground and dark web websites. This discussion will include the importance of "cyber drills" and how to train teams across the enterprise to identify and respond to the bad guys. |

Concurrent SessionsWho is Securing Minnesota?Meeting Room 2/3Cybersecurity continues to be top of mind for all levels of government, but should the responsibility sit on your CISO’s shoulders? What about agencies that don’t have the luxury of dedicated security staff? Either way, employees have the power to harm or to help, and it’s important that standards are in place so everyone knows what’s expected of them. This session covers current trends in cybersecurity training, awareness, and how to communicate risk so everyone listens.
