We hope you were able to attend our first Industry Insider – Texas Member Briefing. The purpose of these exclusive member-only briefings is to give our members unique exposure to key CIOs and leaders in the largest Texas public sector agencies and jurisdictions. This briefing features the CIOs of Texas DMV and CapMetro.
The Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV) is the state agency dedicated to customer service, consumer protection and the success of motor vehicle-related industries. Each year the agency registers almost 24 million vehicles; regulates vehicle dealers; credentials buses and big trucks for intrastate and interstate commerce; issues oversize and overweight permits; and awards grants to law enforcement agencies to reduce vehicle burglaries and thefts. The agency became operational in 2009. As CIO, Wendy Barron oversees the Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) consisting of more than 90 employees and additional contract staff.
The Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority (CapMetro) is Austin's regional public transportation provider. It has been around since 1985 and works every day to give residents, commuters and visitors the best possible transit options available to match their busy everyday lives and have more than 31 million boardings each year. In June of this year Tanya Acevedo, who has held a number of public sector tech leadership roles, joined CapMetro as its CIO and senior vice president.
