Keynote - Bringing the “It Factor” to IT

Bourbeau Grand Ballroom Salon I/II

Anthony Huey, President, Reputation Management Associates

We’ve all met someone with intangible qualities that draw others in and make them say, “Wow!” Some call it charisma, magnetism, or the “It Factor,” but it’s nearly impossible to define. You can’t touch the It Factor, but you can immediately feel when someone has it. Why do some leaders have this seemingly magical presence, while too many of us come across as extraordinarily ordinary? Anthony Huey has spent the last 20 years as a communications coach answering this question by studying thousands of executives and the qualities that turn managers into inspirational leaders. He has discovered that most anyone can attain some level of the It Factor by understanding and changing how they are perceived while at the same time ratcheting up the willingness to influence and inspire those around them. This fast-paced and interactive keynote address provides practical and immediately implementable approaches to bringing the It Factor not just to you personally but to your organization.

Climbing out of the Fog and Into the Cloud

Bourbeau Grand Ballroom Salon III

Today, it’s tough to find an organization that doesn’t depend on the cloud for something critical. The question is no longer whether to venture into the cloud, yes or no. Now it’s a matter of “How, what, when and where?” Possibilities and configurations are endless and understanding and anticipating risks, limitations, scope and accountability are critical to success. This session explores the factors to consider before going “all in” (or even partway).

Enterprise Architecture for Optimized and Modernized Operations

Bourbeau Grand Ballroom Salon IV

One of IT’s greatest challenges is designing models, architectures and platforms in the era of mobility, cloud, big data and automation. It’s easy to get caught up in meeting new fads and demands without laying the proper foundations or evaluating the actual tradeoffs. This session discusses key advantages of standardizing enterprise architecture organization-wide and provides an overview of the Louisiana Enterprise Architecture Project.

Bridging the Digital Divide

Bienvenue

It’s a highly interactive and fast-paced society, and people are getting more demanding about, well, everything. The pressure is mounting on government, too, as the public wants and needs digitized services. But how does government keep up and not leave anyone behind? What are the socio-economic barriers? What are the technical challenges? This session looks at some of the progress being made in approaching genuine digital equity.

Disaster Tested, Disaster Proven

Bourbeau Grand Ballroom Salon III

Somewhere nearby is a crisis or disaster waiting to happen. It might be nature’s wrath or a cyber-attack or a sudden social upheaval. Whatever it may be, decisions will have to be made at lightning speed to save lives, time and even reputations. This is possible only to the degree that infrastructure and networks (both physical and inter-personal) are keeping people connected no matter what the circumstances. This session looks at how to keep operating in the worst of conditions.

Elliot Moore, Manager, System Engineers, Zerto Sales

Data Sharing – It’s Good for IT and Great for Business

Bourbeau Grand Ballroom Salon IV

Typically, organizations have an inconsistent view of data across departments or even within the same department. In this age of mobile devices, IoT, big data and the cloud, it’s more important than ever to find ways to reliably share data both internally and externally. Otherwise there will be inefficiencies, missed opportunities and poor results. This session discusses how to lay the foundation for an effective data-sharing strategy.

Warren Kron, GIS Manager, City of Baton Rouge, Parish of East Baton Rouge

Eric Ogburn, Director of Enterprise Information, Information Technology and Innovation, City of New Orleans

Robert Manuel, Chief Data Officer, State of Louisiana

Agile IT

Bienvenue

Conventional project management and software development are deliberate and orderly, emphasizing rigorous specification and planning. Today, however, our consumer-centric society is pushing the pace of development and response, leading to far shorter windows and putting a strain on traditional methodologies. This session looks into current thinking about when and why an agile approach is appropriate, potential challenges, and how to form a realistic action plan to leverage this approach.

Blockchain 101

Blockchain is being called the next big transformational technology in government. What is blockchain? In a nutshell, it’s an incorruptible and transparent ledger of digital transactions. Examples include identity management, contract management, financial services, licensing, electronic voting and much more. There is a lot to like. This session provides an introduction to this fast-emerging technology, why it is particularly suited to government applications and how to get started.

Combiz Abdolrahini, Specialist Manager, Deloitte Consulting LLP

Leading in a Time of Transformation

As technology drives on and continues to transform society in countless ways, we each have the choice to lead, follow or risk getting run over. Option number one is certainly the most rewarding. It’s not always easy to embrace the process of reinvention, but is there really any other choice in the long run? One Louisiana city is using innovative ideas backed by the smart city movement to do just that, and there’s nothing smarter than sharing ideas and inspiration with fellow governments. This session showcases how Lafayette Consolidated Government is using efficiency, agility, data-driven performance and engagement to invest in smarter governance.
