Featured Speaker – The Ethical Implications of Black Mirror: Why we need AI TransparencyCalifornia Ballroom ABPhaedra Boinodiris, Member, IBM Academy of Technology Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology has the power to amplify human ingenuity, extending our capabilities to help solve the biggest business and global challenges. When made accessible to everyone, AI will transform industries, make us more productive and help us enrich the customer and citizen experience. As technology increasingly becomes part of the products and services people use at work and at home every day, the power of AI technology must be balanced with a responsible approach, applying ethics to address societal impacts and build trust. In this 45-minute talk, Phaedra will explore episodes from the popular Netflix show Black Mirror and how Design Thinking can be used to ensure that the very worst (as evidenced in the show) does not come to pass. |

Keynote – I See Potential in You!California Ballroom ABThurl Bailey, Inspirational Speaker & Retired Professional Basketball Player (@bigTbailey) How those 5 words changed my life! How can we best discover the potential we have as individuals and then use that potential collectively to win as a team? The answer may lay in our past. Professional speaker, broadcast analyst for the Utah Jazz and University of Utah, an actor, and an award-winning singer/song writer, Thurl Bailey attended North Carolina State University and was a key player in the 'Wolfpacks' miracle run to the 1983 NCAA Championship. That same year, Thurl led NC State in both scoring and rebounds. When the Utah Jazz drafted Thurl in 1983 as the 7th pick of the draft, Jazz management reported that he was selected for the quality of his character, as well as the quality of his game. This was the beginning of 16 years of playing professional basketball – 12 of those years in the NBA. |

Featured Speaker – The Innovation MindsetCalifornia Ballroom ABChris Hein, Head of Public Sector Engineering, Google There’s a world of difference between 10x and 10%. Most organizations would be happy to improve by 10%, but that just means they’re doing pretty much the same thing they did before. True innovation happens when you try to improve something by 10 times rather than 10%. It requires a perspective shift, which, surprisingly, is often cheaper and easier than trying to improve marginally. Can government adopt a 10x mindset? Yes! It’s already happening, and in this session we will hear from one who is helping to lead the charge. Chris Hein is passionate about two things: disruptive technology and customer engagement. Our ultimate success will depend on how willingly – and boldly – we embrace them both. |
