Government Technology’s passion is helping spread best practices and spurring innovation in the public sector. The Kentucky Digital Government Summit is designed to do just that. The summit has an advisory board that gathers public sector and private sector leaders to create an agenda designed to make that passion relevant and actionable to the state and local government organizations attending the summit. Participants tell us they use the inspirational keynotes, leadership discussions, networking breaks, and timely topics discussed in the numerous breakout sessions to help advance the goals of their organizations and their own career paths.
Topics Include:
I look forward to the Kentucky Digital Government Summit every year. It’s the perfect opportunity for both sectors to get together to discuss where we’re headed and how we can get there even faster. There’s an energy that’s palpable at the Summit and we always end up engaging in important discussions about new ideas, solutions and opportunities. I strongly encourage you to join us and I look forward to seeing you there!

General Session – Innovate!Assembly BallroomAs technology drives on and continues to transform society in countless ways, we each have the choice to lead, follow or risk getting run over. Option number one is definitely the most rewarding. It’s not always easy to embrace the process of reinvention, but is there really any other choice in the long run? This session looks at some novel approaches for inspiring and engaging employees, stakeholders, businesses and citizens to think outside the box, safely venture beyond comfort zones and try some things that might never have been done before. Concurrent SessionsThe Value of a Risk AssessmentCaucus RoomThe cyber landscape is constantly shifting, and some strategies and safeguards that were secure just a year or two ago don’t cut it anymore. But the good news is that a properly done risk assessment can quite accurately identify vulnerabilities and priorities. And, it helps an organization get smarter about the information it must protect. This session takes a close look at what constitutes a valid assessment and what you stand to gain. David Carter, Chief Information Security Officer, Office of Technology, Commonwealth of Kentucky Bo Gorham, Senior Security Engineer, Public Works, SecureWorks (representing Dell EMC) Terry Hect, Chief Security Strategist, AT&T Leveraging Your DataKentucky RoomVirtually every industry is being revolutionized by big data and analytics. Concurrent SessionsMoving Out of the Fog and into the CloudCaucus RoomToday, it’s tough to find an organization that doesn’t depend on the cloud for something crucial. The question is no longer whether to venture into the cloud, yes or no. Now it’s a matter of “How, what, when and where?” Understanding and anticipating risks, limitations, scope and accountability are critical to success. This session explores the factors to consider before going “all in” (or even partway). Bryan Hunt, Cloud Solution Specialist, Microsoft Scott Stephens, Enterprise Architect, Office of Technology, Commonwealth of Kentucky Show Me the Money!Kentucky RoomSenior leaders and legislatures are a lot more demanding. They want to see realistic numbers about costs and savings, and the numbers better be convincing. It’s not enough anymore to show that services will be greatly improved. Be prepared to answer questions like: What is the true cost of ownership, including personnel? What (and when!) is the expected payback? What are the eventual costs of not doing the project at all? This session focuses on how to better demonstrate ROI for technology projects. Moderator: Mark Bunning, Deputy Secretary, Finance & Administration Cabinet, Commonwealth of Kentucky Michael Darmetta, Managing Partner, Smart Communities, Verizon Mack Gillim, Executive Director – Office of Processing and Enforcement, Department of Revenue, Commonwealth of Kentucky Heather Stout, Executive Director, Office of Information Technology, Transportation Cabinet, Commonwealth of Kentucky Security and ElectionsSeminar RoomElection security was big news during the recent presidential election and in its aftermath, leading the federal government to rule that election infrastructure qualifies as critical infrastructure. How will this impact state and local government, and what should we be focusing on right now to avoid being front page news later? This session discusses the future of one of the highest-profile functions in government.
