Overview

The Center for Digital Education hosted a Market Briefing event in San Antonio, TX. IT leaders from San Antonio school districts were on hand for a special briefing on their technology plans for the coming years.

The participants briefed the audience on district plans in a variety of topic areas, including computing infrastructure, mobile devices, digital content, professional development, cyber security and their plans to incorporate blended learning models.

This event allows participants to:

• Hear directly from CIOs and technology leaders from area school districts
• Network with fellow industry leaders in the region
• Learn about the hot issues in the education IT market

Jim Baldoni

Jim Baldoni

Director of Instructional Technology Services, North East ISD

Jim Baldoni has worked in education for 27 years. He taught in the classroom from 1990 through 1998. From 1998 through 2002, he worked as an educational specialist for the Education Service Center, Region 20. While there, he had the opportunity to work with more than 52 different school districts, providing numerous hours of staff development and technology planning. In 2003, he was an instructional technology coordinator for San Antonio ISD. Jim is currently director for instructional technology services for North East ISD. His mission is to make technology integration an essential part of the everyday curriculum for all students and staff.

Karla Burkholder, Ed.D.

Director of Instructional Technology, Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District

Karla Burkholder, Ed.D. is the director of instructional technology for Schertz-Cibolo-Universal City Independent School District in Schertz, TX. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Education and Master of Science in Computer Education and Cognitive Systems from the University of North Texas, and Doctor of Education from Nova Southeastern University. She began her career in educational technology in 1986. She has led nationally recognized digital learning initiatives throughout her career and recently received the ISTE Making IT Happen award.

Scott Laleman

Scott Laleman

Director of Technology, South San Antonio ISD

Scott Laleman is the director of technology for South San Antonio ISD, a district with 15 campuses and 9,500 students in the southwest corner of San Antonio. Prior to South San Antonio, Scott was the CTO in La Vernia ISD, a rural district east of San Antonio, for three years. Scott began his 20-year career in education as a teacher and coach in San Antonio ISD. He has also held positions as a technology coordinator, and instructional technology specialist in several San Antonio area districts, as well as the Chicago suburbs. He hold a BS in Elementary Education from Illinois State University and an MA in Educational Technology from Pepperdine. Scott lives in San Antonio with his wife and their two daughters.
