The Employment Development Department (EDD) provides a range of services to Californians, including Unemployment Insurance (UI), State Disability Insurance (SDI), workforce training, and more. As the state’s largest tax collection agency, EDD audits and collects payroll taxes and maintains records for over 17 million workers. With a total budget of $9.5 billion, including an IT budget of $355 million, EDD operates with nearly 10,000 employees across hundreds of locations. For over 70 years, EDD has played a vital role in supporting California’s economy by connecting job seekers and employers.

As the Chief Information Officer of the Employment Development Department (EDD), Ajit leads the modernization and strategic direction of the IT Branch, overseeing critical systems that facilitate the disbursement of billions of dollars in Unemployment Insurance (UI), Disability Insurance (DI), and Paid Family Leave benefits. With over 20 years of IT experience spanning both public and private sectors, Ajit is dedicated to leveraging technology to drive innovation and improve services that profoundly impact the lives of Californians.
Ajit is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and ITIL Expert, with an MBA and a bachelor's degree in engineering. His leadership drives the advancement of EDD’s Unemployment Insurance (UI), Disability Insurance (DI), workforce, and tax collection systems under the EDDNext initiative. Committed to operational excellence, he delivers measurable outcomes that align with and enhance the agency's mission to serve Californians effectively

Loree Levy

Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Employment Development Department (EDD), State of California

Loree Levy was appointed Deputy Director of the Public Affairs Branch at the California Employment Development Department in November 2002. The Public Affairs Branch has evolved significantly over that time to now feature a Customer Experience division along with Strategic Communications division that includes various media, public education and outreach, website, social media, graphic development, Spanish translation, and Voice of the Customer related operations.
Levy’s operation manages the EDD brand, conducting public education campaigns, providing plain language training, measuring customer experience with real-time data and actionable insights, and leading the department in its customer-centric commitment to putting customer needs and expectations front and center in modernization efforts and communications. 
Prior to her appointment with EDD, Levy spent 15 years in television news. In the Sacramento area, she was an on-air reporter for NBC-affiliate KCRA-TV Channel 3 and a news anchor for “Good Day Sacramento” at KPWB-TV Channel 31. Levy is a native of Sacramento and holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from California State University, Sacramento.
