Government Technology’s passion is helping spread best practices and spurring innovation in the public sector. The Georgia Digital Government Summit is designed to do just that. The summit has an advisory board that gathers public- and private-sector leaders to create an agenda designed to make that passion relevant and actionable to the state and local government organizations attending the summit. Participants tell us they use the inspirational keynotes, leadership discussions, networking breaks, and the timely topics discussed in the numerous breakout sessions to help advance the goals of their organizations.
This Year’s Topics:
“Rapidly changing technology is transforming our world. It’s disrupted the way major industries do business, and there’s no doubt that it’s also changing the way government does business. The Georgia Digital Government Summit offers us a valuable opportunity to investigate ways to take advantage of these changes. State agencies and local governments alike can benefit from keynote presentations, breakout sessions and vendor exhibits, and it’s a great forum for strengthening relationships and collaboration between state and local agencies. The Summit is targeted to both IT staff and business leaders, with a strong agenda aimed at exploring how technology can support business objectives. I hope you’ll plan to attend the Summit – it will be time well-spent.”

Opening Keynote – Find Your VoiceGrand Ballroom A/BJim Meskimen, Master Impressionist and Communication Coach Today’s culture emphasizes the value of teamwork and collaboration, sometimes at the expense of the individual. This is particularly true in the IT arena where you can sometimes find yourself stereotyped, or even worse, not taken seriously by potential stakeholders. What good are insights and solutions if your words get lost in the crowd? You need to make sure that you’re heard! Jim Meskimen has spent the past 30 years studying the most famous, creative and interesting people in modern times. In this fascinating and hilarious session, Jim discusses – and illustrates – the traits and methods used by some of the best and most charismatic communicators in the world. Don’t settle for being “one of the crowd.” YOU have a unique identity. YOU have a voice! |

Concurrent SessionsCloud Today – What It Means for the Business of GovernmentEast/West PacesBack in the early days, the Cloud was merely a way to share information. Today, almost anything can be delivered via the Cloud “as a service”: software, infrastructure, storage, platforms, data, you name it. The possibilities and configurations are endless, and they introduce a variety of challenges and opportunities. This session explores the nature of cloud computing today and how it fits into government operations. Marcus Gates, Senior Manager, Private Cloud Services, Avaya Chris Van Wagoner, Chief Strategy Officer, CommVault Leveraging Big Data with Meaningful AnalyticsGrand Ballroom C/DSociety’s appetite for data is downright insatiable. General Session – Breach! When Bad Things Happen to Good People (and Their Organizations)Grand Ballroom A/BCyber security is the new front line of financial crime and social upheaval. It is the new Wild West, with hackers divided among the "white hats" and "black hats." Stage coach and bank robberies of old have been replaced by heists of personally identifiable information from major retailers, insurers and governments. Political protests are increasingly taking the form of denial-of-service attacks by so-called “hactivists” to disrupt the normal order of things. Such things can and do happen anywhere, and everybody has a role in preventing, preparing for, and responding to cyber threats. This interactive session unpacks key lessons and learnings from real-life cases with the help of a panel of local experts and engaged audience members. Moderator: Jack Mortimer, Government Technology magazine DuWayne Aikins, Senior Cyber Security Strategist, AT&T Mark Ray, Special Agent, Federal Bureau of Investigation Mark Reardon, Chief Information Security Officer, Georgia Technology Authority, State of Georgia |

Concurrent SessionsCyber Security: How Do I know When I’m Doing Enough?East/West PacesOne question about security is very easy to answer: "Are we 100% digitally secure?" The answer is always "no," of course. There are no absolutes, and that's particularly true for security. But there are ways to tilt the odds in your favor. This session focuses on evaluating the latest threats, gauging risk factors, shoring up defenses, and maybe even sleeping a little better at night. Ronnie Barrett, Director of Information Technology, City of Marietta & Marietta BLW Ben Simmons, Director of Technical Account Management, Samsung Business Taking Mobility from Strategy to ImplementationGrand Ballroom C/DIn this interactive and fast-paced society, people are getting more demanding about, well, everything. And mobility is at the top of the list. Pressure is mounting on government IT organizations to be more proactive in providing mobile solutions both internally and externally. This session discusses the most important factors to consider when turning mobile strategies into realities. Kerry Bass, Senior Public Sector Subject Matter Expert, Enterprise Solutions, Public Sector Practice, US and Canada, Unisys Rob Frazzini, Principal, Deloitte Digital Susan Sports, Public Information Officer, Department of Driver Services (DDS), State of Georgia Data and the CloudGrand Ballroom EThe paradigm has already shifted, and just about every organization has ventured into the cloud to one degree or another. General Session (Fast Tracks)Grand Ballroom A/BGame of DronesIs privacy a lost cause in today’s high-tech society? Once you leave your house or even connect to the Internet you’re in the public domain and there are digital eyes everywhere. Whether that’s good or bad depends on one’s point of view. But drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) bring a whole new element to the equation. This session discusses the issues, challenges and opportunities raised by what is sure to be a game-changing technology in government. John Martin, Chief Information Officer, Department of Natural Resources, State of Georgia The New IT LeaderThe IT landscape is changing fast, particularly for managers. Trends like mobility, cloud, citizen engagement, analytics, cybercrime and managed services are all game-changers, not to mention a whole new generation entering (and eventually dominating) the workplace. If your workforce hasn’t already undergone a fundamental shift, it surely will soon. This session focuses on the leadership qualities needed in the years ahead. Patrick Moore, Chair, Government Technology Society, Technology Association of Georgia Securing GeorgiaCybersecurity is clearly one of the most serious economic and national security challenges we face as a nation, and it’s a top priority in the state of Georgia. To accelerate the process, Governor Deal created the State Government Systems Cybersecurity Review Board to focus on the protection and privacy of citizen data and to leverage the state’s resources and purchasing power. This session provides an important update on current plans, programs and progress. Tom Fruman, Senior Officer – Enterprise Governance & Planning, Georgia Technology Authority, State of Georgia |
