Concurrent SessionsNavigating the Cyber LandscapeCapitol Ballroom 1Government organizations are under attack and the stakes have never been higher. Threats of all types are increasingly sophisticated and better organized. Spearfishing, ransomware, hacktivism and election tampering are becoming full-fledged industries with remarkably low barriers to entry. This session looks at the elements necessary to predict, collaborate, prepare for and respond to today’s most insidious threats. Debbi Blyth, Chief Information Security Officer, Governor's Office of Information Technology, State of Colorado Sam Hall, Senior Manager of Solutions Architecture and Engineering, Colorado & Wyoming, Verizon Wireless James Stoner, Information Security Manager, Technology Services, City and County of Denver Hayri Tarhan, Regional Vice President, Public Sector Security and Management Cloud, Oracle Emerging Technologies That Will Impact GovernmentCapitol Ballroom 2A hundred years ago, consumers were just starting to get familiar with electricity, telephones, refrigerators, stainless steel, washing machines and zippers. Those were glory days for technology, but no more so than today. Technology continues at a mad rate to insert itself ever more deeply into our lives, changing forever how we work, play and relate to others. This session looks at some of the cool products and innovations that are shaping an extraordinary future. Todd Berger, Senior Director, Technical Solutions, BlackBerry Geo George, Senior Manager, Public Sector, State and Local, Salesforce David McCurdy, Chief Technology Officer, Governor's Office of Information Technology, State of Colorado Agile ITCapitol Ballroom 3Conventional project management and software development are deliberate and orderly, emphasizing rigorous specification and planning. Featured Speaker - Expectations of a Constantly Connected GenerationCapitol Ballroom 4 – 7Michael Hakkarinen, Instructional Technology Specialist, Utah Education Network (@edtechakk) Technology is transforming society in fundamental ways as new generations grow up using portable digital devices, often before they can even walk or talk. In this 24/7 online world, we take connectivity and engagement for granted, evolving into a digitally divided society. The haves and have nots, the online and the disconnected, the technically savvy and the digitally discouraged. From millennials to baby boomers, the differences between our generational expectations are growing to a point where a "fear of the young" can sometimes emerge. In this session, we will discuss the challenges and opportunities that IT professionals face, and ask the difficult questions necessary to bring our culture together in a truly connected environment. |

Concurrent SessionsIntelligent Communities and IoTCapitol Ballroom 1It’s clear that smart technologies and IoT are the future of our communities. Is government ready for billions – soon to be trillions – of sensors and devices connected to one another that will transform our society? This session explores the role of government in using, controlling and surviving the hyper-connected world of IoT and how it will affect our communities. Allan Foster, VP of Standards & Technology, Office of the CTO, ForgeRock Jim Lindauer, IOT Lead Architect (Smart Cities), Technology Services, Enterprise Architecture, City and County of Denver Daniele Loffreda, Advisor, State & Local Government, Education and Healthcare, Marketing Development and Consulting, Ciena Reinventing the Citizen ExperienceCapitol Ballroom 2In this highly interactive and fast-paced society, people are getting more demanding about, well, everything. The pressure is mounting on government services, too, and one of the Governor’s top priorities is to make “citizen-centric” more than a buzzword. To one degree or another, each of us is expected to wear the hat of “Chief Customer Officer”. This session discusses innovative strategies to remake government’s relationship with its customers into something more stimulating and rewarding. Jason Odden, Associate Director, Enterprise Solutions, Cask Jacquelyn Pyun, User Experience (UX) Manager, Governor's Office of Information Technology, State of Colorado Fred Sargeson, President, Colorado Interactive Optimizing the Workforce and Workplace of TomorrowCapitol Ballroom 3For years, government has widely reported the onset of the “silver tsunami.” The looming retirement wave is driving the need to accelerate innovative recruitment and retention practices in government at all levels, particularly in IT. Questions about mobility, flexibility, collaboration tools and collaborative spaces are becoming common during the interview process. Yet government is not always prepared to offer competitive answers in today’s legacy environment. This session offers a look at what some innovative organizations are doing to scrap outmoded practices, address modernization and embrace new paradigms. Scott Cardenas, Chief Information Officer, City and County of Denver Steve Clagg, Chief Information Officer, Information Technology, Aurora Public Schools Colin Wardlaw, Sales Director, State and Local, Adobe Clara Woodmansee, Senior Manager of Talent Acquisition, Governor's Office of Information Technology, State of Colorado |

Fast Track SessionsCapitol Ballroom 4 – 7Why Broadband MattersIn Colorado’s rural areas, only 7 in 10 people have access to broadband, but groundbreaking work is being done to achieve 100 percent access by 2020. This will ensure that every county has the tools needed for economic development and success. This session provides an update on the progress being made and why it is so important to the State. Tony Neal-Graves, Executive Director, Broadband Office, Governor’s Office of Information Technology, State of Colorado Critical Infrastructure in Colorado – Is it Secure?Attacks on critical infrastructure - think chemical, energy, manufacturing, water, transportation, etc - are a growing concern as IoT devices connect the world around us. This eye-opening session will give an overview of CIAC, current projects and their efforts to manage risks through an integrated approach. Jerry Eastman, Cyber Security Intelligence Analyst, Colorado Information and Analysis Center (CIAC) Collaboration is KeyFor the second year in a row, Douglas County ranks in the top ten happiest Counties in the United States. What’s their secret? More than one factor can be credited but it can’t hurt that IT in the County focuses on collaborating, innovating and leading the way to streamlined citizen services. This session showcases Douglas County accomplishments, projects and initiatives that are optimizing citizen services in a meaningful way. John Thompson, Data Services Manager, Douglas County |
