Government Technology’s passion is helping spread best practices and spurring innovation in the public sector. The Arizona Digital Government Summit is designed to do just that. The summit has an advisory board that gathers public sector and private sector leaders to create an agenda that is relevant and actionable to the state and local government organizations attending the summit. Participants can take advantage of inspirational keynotes, leadership discussions, networking breaks, and timely topics discussed in the numerous breakout sessions to help advance the goals of their organizations and their own career paths.
Topics Include:
This is a time of great momentum and change in society, and our citizens expect and demand an entirely new echelon of customer experience. Without modern technologies, our departments cannot meet the needs of our citizens, plain and simple. We have a lot to talk about, and the timing of the 26th Arizona Digital Government Summit couldn’t be better. Please join us as we brainstorm and strategize how to achieve true digital transformation across the state of Arizona. See you there!

Keynote - What’s Your Story?Regency Ballroom C/DKelly Swanson, Strategic Narrative Specialist IT is an adventure. Or should be! Every project is a journey, and we need to be better at promoting what we’re doing and accomplishing. It’s important to paint pictures that resonate. Data alone is not enough anymore. It’s already over-used, mis-used, abused and fake-newsed. The key is wrapping your data in a way that makes people care. You need the secret ingredient that is probably missing from presentations, pitches, speeches and any situation where you are trying to move the needle. In this mind-expanding session, you will find out how to go from manipulating to motivating, from communicating to connecting, from telling people what to do to making them want to do it. Learn from the master! |

Concurrent SessionsBecoming Citizen-CentricSundance (1st Floor)If the private sector can imagine it, the public sector will eventually be expected to deliver it. Citizens are used to a certain level of ease when it comes to buying and receiving goods and services - typically through a click of a button on their smartphone. In this fast-paced world and a soaring demand to be customer-centric, how does government keep up? This session dives into why standing still isn’t an option and why it’s critical to drive forward with innovative citizen experience strategies in mind. Chris Dilley, Chief Technical Officer, SLED, ServiceNow Eric Jorgensen¸ Motor Vehicle Division Director, ADOT Motor Vehicle Modernization Project, State of Arizona David Knigge, Project Director, ADOT Motor Vehicle Modernization Project, State of Arizona Hybrid IT EnvironmentsCassidy (2nd Floor)As state and local governments move to the cloud at an increasing pace, they’re running into some common holdups, including the determination of which workloads are cloud-ready and which should continue to run in on-premise data centers. The bottom line: organizations should have a comprehensive hybrid IT strategy! This session looks at how to strike the right balance between on-prem control and cloud innovation. Mike Beddow, Public Market Cloud Leader, IBM Global Markets Paula Mattingly, Chief Information Officer, Department of Health Services, State of Arizona Mobilizing the WorkforceEllis East (2nd Floor)We’ve long since passed the tipping point where internet usage on mobile devices surpassed desktop access. And the gap will only widen as 5G rolls out, potentially changing the way we live, work and play. This means that IT should be thinking mobile-first (and perhaps ultimately mobile-only) in almost everything it does. This session discusses where we’re headed and how to keep up with an increasingly demanding workforce and citizenry. Ryan Gordon, IoT Innovation – Smart Communities & Smart Grid, Verizon Wireless Jung Thai, Senior Project Manager, Department of Health Services, State of Arizona Pardon the DisruptionEllis West (2nd Floor)Without a doubt, we are facing a record number of disruptive technologies. Two of them in particular have been getting a lot of attention and it’s tough to separate hype from reality. Blockchain will reportedly upend multiple industries. AI will eventually transform everything. Will these new technologies revolutionize government operations and services? How can we make the distinction between sound predictions and mere false hopes? What is happening right here and right now? This session offers a deeper dive into two of the most anticipated – and sometimes troubling – technologies of them all. Concurrent SessionsDriving Change at ScaleCassidy (2nd Floor)The previous session Future Ready discussed why this is the Age of Acceleration and how it will impact our IT organizations in the years ahead. The game-changers are clear: cloud, automation, virtual reality, cybercrime, grey tsunami, citizen expectations, digital divide, etc. Will they beget opportunities or breaking points? It’s all in the preparation. This interactive session furthers the discussion about how and why our IT organizations must evolve to meet – and embrace – the challenges ahead. Sean Feeney, Cloud Engineering Practice Director, Cloud Services, Nerdery Holly Schoch, Account Executive, State and Local Government, Google Heather Sheston, Google Statewide Champion, State of Arizona Security Over the EdgeEllis East (2nd Floor)The cyber landscape is constantly shifting, and strategies and safeguards that were considered secure just a few years ago don’t cut it anymore. The “edge” is getting more difficult to define. Networks are becoming more distributed. Devices continue to proliferate. The cloud is literally everywhere. IoT is a looming tidal wave. This session looks at current and future trends, threats and strategies on the cyber front. Jason Graun, Manager, Solution Engineering, Office of the Chief Technology Officer, Fortinet Owen Zorge, Acting State Chief Information Security Officer, Department of Administration, Arizona Strategic Enterprise Technology Office, State of Arizona Data RevolutionEllis West (2nd Floor)It’s a common refrain that government should operate more like an enterprise. This approach holds true in some ways more than others, but it particularly applies to data and how it’s used – or not used – in meaningful ways. It all starts with data sharing. But why isn’t it done enough? Are the barriers cultural, legal or technical? This session will explore the barriers to data sharing and propose tools and strategies to take us from siloed data to actionable information. Benjamin VandenBerg, Enterprise Cloud Architect, Arizona Strategic Enterprise Technology Office, State of Arizona Jeff Wolkove, State Data Management Architect, Strategic Enterprise Solutions, Arizona Strategic Enterprise Technology Office, State of Arizona Sponsor BriefingSundance (1st Floor)(Industry sponsors only.) General Session – Jumpstarting a Smart FutureRegency Ballroom C/DArizona is on a roll! It recently hit a trifecta by being listed at or near the top of the nation’s fastest-growing states, counties (Maricopa) and cities (Phoenix). And now it’s becoming known for something even loftier – the headway it’s making in launching a powerful collaborative that will turn the metro area and eventually the entire state into a true Smart Region. What does that have to do with IT? Everything! It goes without saying that IT is at the heart of all that will be achieved, and there’s nothing smarter than sharing ideas and inspiration. In this session, we will get the inside scoop on what it means to be “smart”, how we’re going to get there, and why it’s critical to Arizona’s future.
