Wednesday, September 24, 11:30 am - 2:30 pm
Hart Theater Lounge
A program designed by and for senior executives in New York government to be held in conjunction with GTC East 2008
Those in attendance will consist of the highest level of leadership in government: Agency Commissioners, Executive Deputy and Deputy Commissioners, Chief Information Officers, Chief Financial Officers, Budget Directors, Chief Operations Officers, Chief Security Officers and Senior Managers and Elected Officials.
As baby boomers begin retiring in droves, New York state leaders are facing a new challenge: attracting and leading a multi-generational workforce. Across the nation, estimates hold that fully 30 percent of the state and local government workforce will retire in less than 5 years. Are you ready? As the baby boomers begin leaving government service, Gen-X, Gen-Y and the Millennials will make up the new government workforce. These later generations have grown up in a hyper-connected, hyper-communicating, instant-messaging, YouTube, MySpace, wiki world. Their expectations of leaders and the work environment are, in some ways, unlike anything before. Yet, in other ways, may be surprisingly familiar.
What must government leaders do to attract this new workforce? How will government service change as these generations begin taking a larger role in public service?
Join New York state and local government leaders for a thought provoking conversation on how to get the business of government done with the multi-generational workforce
