Government Technology’s passion is helping spread best practices and spurring innovation in the public sector. The Florida Digital Government Summit is designed to do just that. The summit has an advisory board that gathers public sector and private sector leaders to create an agenda designed to make that passion relevant and actionable to the state and local government organizations attending the summit. Participants tell us they use the inspirational keynotes, leadership discussions, networking breaks, and timely topics discussed in the numerous breakout sessions to help advance the goals of their organizations and their own career paths.
This Year’s Topics Include:
Technology plays an essential role in securing the best possible future for our state. If we are to attain our ambitious goals and targets over the next four years, a key step is to increase our inter-agency collaboration and strengthen our private industry partnerships. We’ve got a lot to do and a lot to talk about. The Florida Digital Government Summit is the ideal place to share ideas, challenges and solutions. I hope you can join us!

Keynote – Leading on the EdgeRoom 208 (Auditorium)Manley Feinberg, World-class Climber, Adventurer and IT Leader (@manleyf) IT officials often struggle to deliver more value under tightening constraints and rising expectations. Throw in the complications of regulations, a changing workforce, constantly evolving technology, plus the chaos of day-to-day life, and you are facing some serious challenges. It can feel like you’re walking too close to the edge, and the old adage “Don’t look down!” applies just as much to a tough deadline as climbing the sheer face of El Capitan. Manley Feinberg has tackled and conquered impossible environments – from breakneck corporate expansion to nature’s most hostile terrains. In this unforgettable keynote, Manley reveals his 8 Vertical Lessons that will enable you to lead, contribute and inspire in ways that will take you – and your teams – to bold new heights. |

Concurrent SessionsFuture of ComputingRoom 103 (1st Floor)Is the desktop dead? Not by any means. But it’s becoming less relevant with the proliferation of mobile endpoints, not just smartphones and tablets but wearables, virtual reality and the Internet of Things. Hyperconvergence (tightly integrating compute, storage, virtualization resources, networking, and other software components) is also growing in influence. This session takes a look at new technologies and approaches that are transforming conventional paradigms. Kevin Patten, Chief Operations Officer, Agency for State Technology, State of Florida Prabu Rambadran, Director of Product Marketing, Nutanix Bob Sanders, General Manager, Information Network of Arkansas, NIC Tweak It, Keep It or Dump It?Room 214 (2nd Floor)Odds are that you’re currently wrestling with the inability of your existing applications to keep pace with the escalating demands of big data, mobility, cloud, transparency, security, “as a service”, et al. The status quo is probably not sustainable for much longer. So where do you go from here and how fast should you try to get there? This session discusses today’s application trends and approaches and how to realistically evaluate your options. Moderator: Deborah Stevens, Strategic Planning Coordinator, Agency for State Technology, State of Florida Charles Ghini, Chief Information Officer, Department of Financial Services, State of Florida David Gilmore, Chief Information Officer, Department of Economic Opportunity, State of Florida Damu Kuttikrishnan, Chief Information Officer, Department of Revenue, State of Florida Kenneth E. Lathrop, Chief Information Officer, City of Jacksonville, State of Florida Curtis Unruh, Deputy State Chief Information Officer/Executive Director, Agency for State Technology, State of Florida Analytics RoadmapRoom 114 (1st Floor)Big Data is pushing organizations to reinvent how they handle and leverage information. Without the right foundation in place, the vast potential of Big Analytics remains largely untapped. It’s all about data readiness, which is driven in turn by adroit and astute data management. This session looks at creative practices and strategies that capitalize on existing data across the enterprise. Featured Speaker – Exponential Government: The Future of Public ServiceRoom 208 (Auditorium)Paul Taylor, Chief Content Officer for Governing, Government Technology, Public CIO, and the Center for Digital Government (@pwtaylor) ex·po·nen·tial (adjective): becoming more and more rapid. The world we’ve known is changing at exponential speed. The iPhone has eclipsed the Blackberry, mobile devices are displacing PCs, the cloud is radically challenging long-held assumptions about data centers, and the Internet of Things is redefining connectivity. What we regard as state of the art today will look quaint tomorrow as exponential technologies unlock individual, organizational, and societal potential. Along the way, people get scared, old organizational models crumble, and legacy cost structures stop penciling out. Understanding these shifts and how they differ from previous shifts is imperative. This session provides a tour of the meta-trends that are reshaping our communities – demographics, economics, methods of work, customer expectations and the relevance of governmental institutions – all annotated with real world examples. By the end, you’ll have a clearer picture of what Exponential Government will look like, how it will act, and why your actions today can lead you to a preferred exponential future and a more perfect union. |

Concurrent SessionsCyber Threats and MotivationsRoom 103 (1st Floor)It’s an old adage that the cyber landscape is constantly shifting. But some things remain unchanged. Attacks are still efforts to rob, disrupt or avenge. Motives are still economic, political or cultural. The overall battlefield remains much the same but the weapons and tactics continue to evolve – often dramatically. This session looks at emerging trends, developments and strategies on the cyber front and how to get ready for the clashes ahead. Joe Ferris, Principal – Technology Security, Global Customer Security Services, AT&T Dean Clemons, Director, Cybersecurity Consulting, Enterprise Security Solutions US Public Sector, Hewlett Packard Enterprise Cloud Adoption StrategiesRoom 214 (2nd Floor)Today, it’s tough to find an organization that doesn’t depend on the cloud for something critical. The question is no longer whether to venture into the cloud, yes or no. Now it’s a matter of “How, what, when and where?” Understanding and anticipating risks, limitations, scope and accountability are critical to success. This session explores the factors to consider before going “all in” (or even partway). Brian Brockway, Chief Technology Officer, CommVault Benoit Chaffanjon, Chief Architect, Global Solution Center, Oracle Eric Larson, Chief Technology Officer, Agency for State Technology, State of Florida What’s in It for the Public?Room 114 (1st Floor)We live in a highly interactive and fast-paced society, and people are getting more demanding about, well, everything. It’s not easy for government to keep up with the private sector in regard to services and engagement, but it’s far from impossible. This session provides a glimpse into the future of open, participatory and self-service government and the innovations and technologies that are leading the way. General SessionsRoom 208 (Auditorium)Cognitive TechnologiesCognitive is defined as intellectual activity (i.e., thinking, reasoning or remembering). In other words, what humans do. Cognitive technology thus means “able to perform tasks that only humans used to be able to do”, and it’s a science that is advancing exponentially. Are we in danger of becoming irrelevant? Not at all. Cognitive-based systems, such as IBM Watson, are designed not to replace us but to extend our cognition and free us to think more creatively. This session provides an introduction to a technology that has enormous potential and implications for government and society. Tim Paydos, Vice President, World Wide Government Cognitive Solutions Team, IBM Cyber Exercises and War GamesPreparation is the key to surviving cyberattacks but even the best-laid incident response plans can fall apart under pressure. The answer is to “stress test” your protocols and communications when there isn’t so much at stake. Taking a cue from the military, war games are being increasingly – and very effectively – utilized in the field of cybersecurity. This session takes a look at some of the creative maneuvers being designed and operated in the state of Florida.
